Thanks @lightningmcstitch Shelley! I’ll try that on the next ones, I was so sad! And I’ll see if I can’t fix up the one that’s frayed. I’m not much good at hand sewing but at least it’s on the back and she has long hair, lol. I’ve been wracking my brain since it happened and I was wondering if shortening my stitch and top stitching would help to…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 4 years agoMy wife’s sewing machine is giving her problems. When power is applied, the motor hums but nothing moves. Also, the hand wheel is difficult to turn – feels like it is binding. This was an inexpensive machine (Euro Shark Pro) that she bought several years ago. I expect it needs a good servicing and cleaning. Considering that she only paid around…[Read more]

Hi Becca,
I remember that happening to a dress (or two) of mine. Perhaps it was the Croquet dress?…. And I recall a thread on this forum about how to prevent it.
I’ve since tended to use a little square of lightweight fusible interfacing on both the main fabric and the facing when I do one of those keyhole slit openings.
A nice, decorative…[Read more] -

I like The Fabric Fairy. They have really nice fabrics and also prints for kids.

It is true that weat-infested polyester smell far worse than cotton. Here are some tips to get rid of the odor:
• Turn your clothes inside out before washing so the inside, sweaty part is more easily cleaned.
• Add a cup of baking soda to the washer as it fills along with detergent. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer, but it works best in con…[Read more] -

Hi! I recently made four matching garden party dresses for my four daughters out of cotton lawn and they love them and I love them and I can’t wait to make more! But—I’m having trouble with the keyhole opening. I was very cautious to not snip through the stitches, and everything seemed fine, but one of my daughters ripped it when she got pulle…[Read more]

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I’ve managed to get hold of the skirt again and taken some photos. I’ve added 3 here but if you need more let me know.
7 – Skirt Side – Side view showing A-line issue. I’ve already tapered both seams on the side panels starting at 15″ down from the waist from 0.5″ to 1″ at the hem. The A-line was much more pronounced…[Read more]

Hi Brenda, It’s difficult to give advice without being able to see the skirt on you, but one big advantage of this style is that you can adjust the seams, as you mentioned. If you feel that you need more or less room in a certain area, simply move your pins to “let in” or “let out”. Once you’ve gotten a fit you like, those changes can be…[Read more]

I think your best bet would to do a mock layout with the pattern pieces since I’m sure they would use less fabric when combined than with three separate fabrics.
