  • My daughter has been more accepting of the sketchbook shorts in drapier fabrics– linen, and cotton/tencel twill. They are really my favorite shorts pattern, practical and comfortable. If your girl is wanting some “pretty”, lace hem tape can help.

I donate it, or use it for muslins or underlining.

  • Most thrift stores accept fabric. Just bag it up. Also, some towns have craft collectives–we have one in our neighborhood where they accept all used/new unwanted craft supplies and re-sell them at very low prices.

Other ideas…classrooms for art projects, preschools, chuch groups, quilt guilds.

Or ask us here in the forums–one sewer’s trash…[Read more]

  • I have a question, too. I used a similar lining. Everything looked great on the top with wrong side to wrong side. However, the seams were facing upward on the skirt. So that if the lining show a bit it would be all rough edges. Is that your experience and why you were concerned about finishing the edges? Or did your raw edges also face up?

Did they save all of the special smocked things that William and Harry wore? I think I remember this ne one of them many years ago – through the eyes of a child. He is a beautiful looking child but then look at the parents!

Sarvi, I wanted to say a big thank you for the link you provided to Jones and Vandermeer. As T said, they have sell some great prints, and I was especially pleased to see their notions’ section. Very keen to try some purses – well, sort of- and J and V sell the frames you need to attach the fabric, and close the purse.

  • I’ll be looking forward to seeing those shorts, Janice. Really useful discussion about girl pants, ladies. Unfortunately, I have almost no scope for these with my “kids”; apart from babies – ie up to 3 yrs, Australian girls seem to have taken ‘the pledge’ re. shorts and trousers. Very frustrating.

  • Tonight I made a Sunday Brunch skirt. Old school Oliver + S!!
I knocked up a quick one in some drill I was gifted in a stomach churning shade of pink. I’m sure she’ll love it and mostly I just wanted to check the fit and construction before I start fiddling with it….

Thankyou Karen. My parent used to have shi tzu dogs. One was the puppy of the older one. I know it won’t make preparing for the inevitable easier but Princess died of cancer also. Belle (the pup) was fourteen and she had an enlarged heart and unfortunately passed away on Good Friday when they were up here at the farm. We had a funeral for her also…[Read more]

  • I hope you work flicker out Sandra.
I’m making a winged badminton skirt. I made a number of these 3 years ago and my niece asked for another one as she had outgrown the first. I appreciate the time I took to make proper patterns of the wings and appliqués and label everything so I could very easily pull out the pieces I needed in the correct size 🙂
