Keeping in mind this is for a 3 yr old, I’d skip the draw string or just sew a decorative/fake one on but not functional. the problem is that you want him to be able to use the bathroom as well as dress himself with as little assist as possible, the real beauty of elastic waist pants for preschoolers in my mind. Can you just open the casing and…[Read more]

The new parachute pants have elastic and a drawstring. I think your plan is a good one.

I’m making a quilt. It’s a little quilt and will probably be a baby present. I’m trying a new technique. I’ve backed the circles with fusible backing and ironed them onto the quilt top. I’ve then made The quilt sandwich and used a large zigzag to sew around the edge of the circles. I’ve used a bright coloured thread on the back so it makes…[Read more]

Garden Party… sewed the sleeve in perfectly. A perfectly set in sleeve. Lovely gathers. All in perfect alignment. Best sleeve I ever have sewn… both correctly AND INSIDE OUT!

Finally finished up my pants for Ridiculously Skinny 3 year old, and I messed up the elastic and basically, it isn’t doing anything to keep his pants up right now. Since I have to go back in and adjust, I asked him, and he said he’d prefer a drawstring.
Thoughts on feasibility? I feel like this should be a simple “make long drawstring (maybe with…[Read more]

So I measured the children yesterday – the two biggies that is. I was referring to the body measurements chart on the Jalie patterns I am using to make some warm clothing (Noah in particular). He fits into what is a size 14 for chest and hips but is a small man’s size for the waist. He keeps saying he needs to lose weight but a growth spurt (and…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic Can I use woven bias fabric to bind edge of knit? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
Do you mean an envelope style neck? Where the back comes over the front at the shoulders and opens up to allow dressing?
You can use a woven binding but remember, that it will not be that stretchy so you will need to make sure it will fit over babies head, just with the envelope style opening.
I hope that is some help.

I would be happy to help with that. I’d even drive to your studio to pick up the pieces. That would be a lot of fun.

I finally found a paper Bedtime Story pj pattern on eBay. I set up a search so it would send me an email when one was posted. Finally snagged one.
good luck!

I suspect the forums would buy a lot of those samples! I know I’d love any size 3T or 4T boy items:-).
What about doing group shots and using one of the forum groups for the sale? Sort of like a very casual online garage sale?

Karen, wouldn’t try and re cut it, just make it and they will grow and fit into it. If it’s only one size to big I’d be tempted to give it to them and they grow into it 🙂
