Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Elastic how long for size 7? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 10 years ago
@miss_Sonja if you look at any pattern you should find body waist measurements for size 7. General rule of thumb is to cut the elastic one inch shorter than the waist measurement. Depends a lot on your elastic and your kid…
For my just turned 7 son who is quite lean I would cut about 22″. I think this is about 1.5″ less than the standard size 7…[Read more] -

I know! Thankfully I realized it before I finished the seams together. 🙂 Thank goodness for small mercies.

Has anyone made a size 7 and can tell me how long to cut the elastic? These are for a surprise gift.
Thanks!

The Sandbox Pants have a drawstring like you’re describing, Emily. Maybe look at those instructions and convert them to the After School? It would certainly be do-able, and the elastic makes it possible to pull the pants on and off without untying…

I can help too, I think… with sorting, packing etc if you’re in NYC or with the forum sale.

Reeni replied to the topic Buying a pattern for one view – making the other. in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
yes! Often what happens to me is that the pattern and fabric I matched up in my head do not agree at all. So I end up with making the pattern in a different fabric or the fabric needing another new pattern. Unfortunately for me that means a huge stash of both!

you can also use some nice colored elastic as your drawstring. It’s easy to tie and untie for little fingers, but also works if they just want to pull the pants on or off without untying.

I haven’t really had the chance to sew alot this past week and with more visitors coming tomorrow, time is running out to whip up something durable for Noah to wear. I am at the moment trying to make a pair of track pants using a pyjama pants pattern. They look huge! But I hope they will fit with room and it doesn’t matter if they are basic, they…[Read more]

Good luck with the quilt, Heidi! I took your advise and didn’the re-cut the class picnic blouse. It was a size 5 and I have been sewing size 4 in O+S for both Chloe and Kaya. I made the blouse shorter by putting tucks above the fancy work of the hem. It came out cute. I also made a sort from another pic I had. I am hoping that this outfit…[Read more]

My husband has very good tastes in sewing machines. He knows I’ve been talking about and investigating embroidery machines.
We were walking around a quilt show over the weekend and he points to a machine that is embroidering and says ” What about that one?”. It was a top of the line Bernina 880 worth about $13,000!
Totally out of the price range…[Read more] - Load More
