Susan replied to the topic Sketchbook shirt too short in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 10 years ago
I know this thread is a year old, but I’m jumping in to say that I had the exact same problem. My 9yo son is average height and weight. When I went with the measurements listed on the pattern envelope it appeared he would wear a size 8. I knew that couldn’t be right, so I cut the size 10 and even made it longer (size 12 length) and it barely fits.…[Read more]

Well, I have my machine back, so I will finish by B&W dress. I can hardly be the gadfly who bzzz-ed in everyone’s ear and not do it myself! 🙂

I sometimes use tailor’s tacks and sometimes use tailor’s chalk. Depending on the fabric, they can both work.

I sense your frustration levels @withloveHeidi. I cut out two metro tshirts – one women’s size small and a men’s size xs. Started sewing the men’s xs in what I thought was knit fabric with 25% stretch – my foot😤😖 and what the HECK did I do to the neckline???? Oh how I do NOT LIKE SEWING WITH STRETCH FABRICS😭😡

I put the Swimsuit aside and sewed up a dolls Tea Pary dress and playsuit! No fitting, much appreciated 🙂

Patterns need to be able to shape shift to fit me also! I don’t think I have ever used a pattern for myself that didn’t involve somesort of alteration – unless it was an accessory.

Oh the idea of no alterations. I would see all the time for myself if I didn’t have so many curves.

They had both linen and merino jersey on sale — I got a bit of each. I’d been wanting to make a jersey top and linen slacks to match a pair of unusual shoes I found for my daughter, and they had the perfect match. They were so lovely and helpful, too — their receipt includes a little card with care instructions.

Ok, good tip — I have some thread a bit like that in a bright color I don’t often use — will try it, thanks!

I’m glad it was a fruitful trip @sarvi. What did you get?
Their store here in Wellington is my favourite place to go fabric shopping.

I always use tailor’s tacks for marking on wool. I have a spool of vintage thread from my late grandmother’s haberdashery stash that is quite thick but also very silky and it is my go to option for this task.
