Yes, I completely understand your concerns. We’ve addressed it in our family by never using S’s name, and I try to be careful not to post specifics about where we live, where she goes to school, etc. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

Thanks Tamara and Liesl 🙂
I’ll have to line them, rather than underlining, as I’ve already made up the main pants section, it just needs hemming and the waistband.
Thanks for such prompt responses! -

I’m with Tamara. When in doubt, line to protect baby’s skin. You could also underline and treat both layers of fabric as one, which can be a nice option with the same general effect.

Hi Liesl,
Yes, that is incredibly helpful. Thanks for clarifying re: the pocket stitching and for the tips about getting the fit right and what to look for – plus skipping muslin!
Thank you so much, very helpful!

Heidi I would line them in a cotton. The wool sounds as though it could irritate sensitive baby skin. I’d use a cotton as natural fibres are best for baby.

I’m making size 6-12m Lullaby Layette pants in slightly scratchy grey wool. I’m wondering about if it would be a good idea to line them and with what? I’ve got satin type lining fabrics as well as cotton/poly cotton.
These will be a gift.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Question about sewing pocket lining on Everyday skirt in the forum liesl + co: everyday skirt 9 years ago
Hi Cat, the stitching for the pocket should continue to the edge of the fabric.
The fit of this skirt depends on how much you cinch up the back elastic. Ideally, the back panel should be about the same width as the front panel when the elastic is cinched to fit you. This will balance the skirt so it’s the same fullness all the way around. I…[Read more]

@ldk237 I understand. We all put so much effort into our sewing. We deserve to show it off and say “Look what I made!” A headless pic is a good idea and keeps some anonimity. And I agree modelled pics are better. It is an individual choice but I am glad you are coming around to the idea of joining in and posting your photos.

I have thought about this issue quite a bit. It’s too bad because the modelled pics show the garment the best but I do worry about posting my daughter’s picture all over the place. I won’t let it completely put me off but I will take security precautions and maybe stick to photos that do not show her face when on more open sites. Deciding how I…[Read more]

@ldk237 don’t feel bad, I was late to the party also. Some ladies have been experiencing some scary security issues on Flickr, so if you do start a flickr account, this is a heads up. May I give you a little advice? To avoid possible things happening to photos containing the children you sew for, I would increase the security on those modelled…[Read more]

Sew Alongs 9 years agoHi Kelley, We haven’t published measurements for the hip, but it would be very easy to determine the width at the spot where you need it by holding the pattern up to your body and finding where your widest part matches the pattern piece. Then measure the pattern pieces at that position, subtracting the 1/2″ seam allowance. My guess will be that…[Read more]

I did double when I drafted mine out of a heavy cotton linen blend. I also interfaced the collar to keep it crisp when worn by an active child. Hang on and I’ll attach pictures.

@ldk237 do you have an instagram account? I have noticed lots of ladies seem to be posting their things on instagram also, if this is any help. We would love to see your sewing. The items above are just gorgeous.
I was pulling some rather beautiful fabric from my stash today with a bid to make a dress for my toddler to wear to a memorial on…[Read more]
