@purplevann1 if you really only want to hem t-shirts then my suggestion is to get familiar with a twin needle and woolly nylon. It will be almost free compared to coverstitch, dead easy to change thread colour and saves having to store another machine.
Or buy yourself something shiny 🙂

I would pop onto the Janome website and call both models up. They will have a complete list of features on both (which you seem well adversed in anyway). Then I would go and talk to the local dealer and ask what the tightening system feature means and the various other things that might be confusing.

I am not near mine and can’t remember the…[Read more]

I am trying to find someone who knows the difference between the janome coverpro 900 and the 1000, other than $400!! I know the 1000 can use up to 3 needles, and the 900 only 2, and the 1000 has something called a seam tightening system, and I don’t know what that is, so don’t know if I need it. I only want to hem t-shirts. Nothing fancy.…[Read more]

What about the sailboat pants connected to the front and back centre panels of the seashore sundresss?

  • Enbee replied to the topic Overalls in the forum off topic 9 years ago

Someone suggested on another thread using the Sailboat pants as a base pattern for overalls, since the front panel of those pants already looks overall-ish. I haven’t done it (in fact, I have yet to sew those pants), but I can see how altering the front would work. Not sure about the back, though.

Made many pants, Joslyn but not overalls; although lately I have been thinking about adding front/straps to the Sandbox pants. This is one of my favourite pants patterns c/o O + S. Roomy and stylish.

  • Thank you Sarvi for the link about armholes/sleeves. Great site to visit, and I especially like the writer’s “cardboard models”.

My suggestion for a LHOP dress is the apple picking frock, and/or the Music Box Pinafore combined with the Music Class Blouse. You could also take the Music Class Blouse, and add a skirt to it (something I’ve been…[Read more]

    Hi
Has anyone made overalls out of an Oliver + S pattern? I am looking to make some for my 6 year old daughter. If not- any suggestions on good patterns? thanks!

Perhaps one of the Lisette fit and flare styles then @ellenmcm? The Bistro is the perfect dress for such occasions.

I should be sewing the afterschool pants for the baby girl that I’ve had sitting there for a while but I have been interrupted so much with “my” turn that I’m dawdling with everything else.

I decided to take the plunge and try some…[Read more]

I don’t know if she would go for the bistro, but I might!

The invitation says “under the sea”
I’m not sure it’s intended for me.
But I’ll dress as a fish
And I’ll come if I wish

I’m so sorry to hear about your dad @ellenmcm. The music class blouse would be perfect and may I suggest the Bistro dress for your 15 year old. It is beautiful to sew and lovely on. I made one for my 13 year old last year when she had her interview with the principal at her new school. Sadly it doesnt fit her anymore as they tend to grow…[Read more]

I’m working on a music class blouse for my 9yo. I didn’t realize when I started – I was thinking about semi-formal recitals – but she’ll be wearing it to my dad’s memorial service at the end of August. It’s a celebration of life, so florals are fine. So now I’m trying to figure out what my 15yo will wear. Probably something off-the-rack, but I…[Read more]

I’m cautious about bra straps at work, but not at home. Spaghetti straps and racer backs are both pretty casual for me.

  • @cybele727 Yes, that’s a good suggestion. It’s one that was made by many people at the end of 2014 when we did our customer survey. We’re including a printing guide like this on all of our newer PDF patterns now. But we haven’t gone back to add it to the older patterns.

I know, that doesn’t help you now, but it may in the future…..

Sewing is slow around here – my version of hibernation I think. I finally finished my jeans and they are much much better than those daggy rtw jeans which are now demoted to farm only. I also finished the jeans for Imogen. I had to add a zipper at the ankles due to my over eager skinny jeans alteration. I’m pleased with the result and I had a few…[Read more]

  • Todd,

I have a suggestion for PDFs in the future. Today when I went to print up the badminton skort, I only want to print the pages I need and not the entire thing. When I open it, some of the pattern pieces aren’t “labeled” because they are just small parts of the pattern. So I sit and look and tile between pages to see if 4b is part of my…[Read more]
