Tamara replied to the topic Please help — how do I lengthen *only* the back rise?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
Whoops! I forgot to mention that if you did the slash and spread method, you’ll need to even out both seams as the side seam will be effected slightly.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Hi Rebecca
This is what I do for my daughters’ pants and also my own.
Firstly I measure from the back centre waist to the inside of the leg where the seam would meet. You can also do this with a pair of pants that already fit her.
Then, because you want to fit only the back not the front, I would calculate the difference between the measurement…[Read more]

Oh, yes — and if it’s a size 5 in front, she says “the front is too dangly!!” meaning, she pushes the waist to where it’s comfortable, which pushes the pants/shorts crotch really low down.
If I make a size 4, front is *perfect* (and width/length!), but the back doesn’t cover the necessary bits. :/ And then she’s walking around, always trying to…[Read more]

My daughter has a long torso, which poses a problem when making pants… Height-wise, she is 44″ (size 5, in O&S size chart), however her waist/hip width and leg length is a 4. So, a size 4 is right, except for the rise…
So, because of her long torso, it makes the top-back of pants not high enough (not covering her bits). The front, however is the…[Read more]

Thank you, @dubhels2003. Just to illustrate the difference, if you purchase my first book on Amazon I make 55 cents. If you purchase it directly from us I make $8.50. So it does help A LOT when you purchase directly from us.
Glad you’re excited, @sasha! Oh, and yes. It will be available for sale directly from us, and much sooner than Amazon…[Read more]

I have a personal preference for ordering direct from writers, musicians etc, but I had spotted the book on pre order on amazon in the UK. I was very excited!

The wedding is at the end of October. I can probably wait for a couple of more weeks. I just don’t want to get too close to the wedding and not have time to fix any mistakes I might make.
Will your book be available to order off the website in a couple of weeks?

Ooh, @sasha, how soon do you need to start the dresses? If you can hold out for two more weeks I think my new book might be very helpful to you…

I am making my girls flower girl/junior bridesmaid dresses for their uncles wedding. I am going to use the fairy tale pattern for the bodice. The bride has asked for the girls dresses to be long. I am planning on using a circle skirt. My younger daughter would really like to have a petticoat so it is “puffy”. Would you recommend attaching the…[Read more]

Yes this is correct! The yoke is lined but what you do is treat the lining as the underside of the shirt. So, as per the instructions, you pin the undercollar to the shirt with the right side against the outer yoke piece part of the shirt. You pin all the way around and then carefully sew it, being careful not to create little bubbles and puckers…[Read more]

Well the fabric shopping is done and I bought an extra 2 m of the sateen I want to use for my fit and flare dress as an entry for this year’s royal show. I also bought some of another print as inspiration hit me whilst watching “zumbo” and seeing Rachel’s dress. The plan is to use the Upton dress pattern and to use Rachel’s dress as inspiration…[Read more]

I think it would be a perfect alternative to the jumprope dress if it wasn’t included in the pattern stash. But at the same time it would be perfect as an alternative shirt dress style. In short, go for it!

Hi! This is my first time sewing this shirt, and I’m struggling a little with the instructions for attaching the collar.
The pattern says “pin the under collar to the shirt’s neckline, right sides together.” I assumed this meant to the outside of the shirt rather than the inside, but then it occurred to me that because the yoke has right sides…[Read more]
