There are sequins all over the rug
Each one looks like a shiny blue bug
I could pick up each one
And it would be done
Once I stick them all to my mugAnd to start a new limerick:
I’ve run out of room for my stash

My daughter used to prefer front sashes as it is more comfortable when sitting. Like already suggested…I’d make a separate sash, thread chains on sides, and put a safety pin at the bow to keep from sagging.

I don’t either, @lightningmcstitch! It’s never caused a real problem, and if I get a little nest of threads I just cut them off. No biggie.

Do you mean prior to washing the yardage of fabric, or finishing seams after seeing them?
At the risk of sounding heretical, I don’t do anything to the edges of new fabric before prewashing. Sure, I sometimes get a mild tangle but I only ever lose a few threads width which is less than you’d lose if you pinked the edges. -

I think you’re right that you need something at the back. It would look quite odd if a sash came forward from the side seams but the back was bare. Somehow it works the opposite way 😉
If you use a cotton and have a full sash it will be heavy and I’d worry it will sag at the front – unless you tie it quite tight!
You certainly could put the back…[Read more] -

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ve got the double gauze and its beautiful! Any advice on precasting? I’m thinking of zigzagging the ends to prevent excessive fraying, washing/rinsing in cold and line drying. Is that reasonable?

Decisions, decisions! Thank you for your help!

I’d probably more inclined to make a separate bow and attach it only via thread chain belt loops at the side seams. That way it can easily be removed for cleaning and pressing, etc. But it sort of depends on the type of bow you’re thinking of, too. You certainly could do it as you suggested as well!

I am planning on sewing a Fairy Tale dress for my daughter’s Easter dress. She wants view A, but she also wants a big bow . . . in the front. Is there any reason why just adding ties to the side seams and tying a bow in front wouldn’t work? Although, I’m thinking it would it look better if the sash went around the back too . . . should it be…[Read more]

PS: Meagan, if I remember correctly, I sewed the lining to the bodice front and back as you do for the Music Box Pinafore pattern. This way, there is no need to try hemming small armholes. (It’s been a while).
