It looks like it is an inset sleeve, which means you have a few options.
1) take the short sleeve and lengthen and narrow as it you would like; or
2) find a sleeve you like and take the pattern’s sleeve cap and draft that onto that sleeve pattern.
Although, looking at the pictures (I don’t have the pattern) it looks like it might be a boxier…[Read more]

Any possibility of adding 3/4 sleeves to the Chai Tee? I would like to make it for fall (and also don’t wear short sleeves). Suggestions? – is the armscye a normal shape/size so one could add a regular sleeve?

Mima started the topic Reverse scallops in the forum oliver + s: building block dress 8 years ago
I recently made 2 Building Block Dresses with a reverse scallop as shown on page 25. I struggled with the idea of how to get the points and finally came up with an idea that worked. I made a facing out of scrap material and sewed it with a basting stitch, turned, clipped and pressed. Then I removed the stitching and there was the scallop ready…[Read more]

Sizing this coat up may not be easy to do. You could always use the Grainline Cascade Duffle Coat pattern instead.

recently, I measured my daughter for a garden party. She’s almost 8 but narrow. So she measured a 3T in width, but obviously not in length. I made a 5 with 8 length. It is a bit big through the shoulders and chest, but plenty long. So I agree. Only go down two sizes at most, and lengthen. Also, after having bought and read the Building…[Read more]

I agree. In general, I recommend that you not size down more than two sizes from the age or the proportions start to feel “off”. For example, S is 12 and I sometimes sew her a size 8 but I need to adjust the shoulders and sleeves. It would be safer to sew her a size 10 and leave a little extra ease for most styles. Knits are fine to be a little…[Read more]

Sure, why not? Whatever works best with your fabric will be just fine for this style!

I’m thinking of doing the Girl version in corduroy. I have some fushia with multi size welt variations I got from Fabric Mart Fabrics.

I’ve done some testing with bias tape at the half inch seams. This just seems too bulky. I’m thinking of using a Hong Kong edge finish instead. What do you think?

My son is 3 – I haven’t measured his chest recently, but he also has a 21 inch waist. The 3T school bus tee is fitting him nicely now – plenty of ease but not baggy, and the right length.
If you were to size down in width, I’d still keep the length of the 3 or 4 – I often add a little extra length when I make this shirt, because my son almost…[Read more]

Hello!
I’m making a School Bus T-shirt for my 4 year old cousin. She measures 20.5 inches in her chest and 21 inches in her waist. That’s putting her in an 18-24 month size for chest! I was wondering what size would be best to do. I’ve sewn for her before, but never an Oliver & S pattern. Thank you!

Erin started the topic Bloomers Bias Tape and Elastic in the forum oliver + s: tea party 8 years ago
Did anyone else have an EXTREMELY hard time with adding the bias tape and elastic to the bloomers. It took me three times to get them acceptable enough to put on a baby w/o cutting off circulation. Has anyone increased the width of the bias tape for the bloomers to 1.5 inches?
