  • Haha, Heidi, your tablet is so cheeky!

I confess that I feel unable, with all my grey hair, to say ‘linky party’ with a straight face. These internet catchphrases are a bit past my time, or should I say, past my timey-wimey, haha.

  • The kid’s costume got completed this morning….at about 5:30 a.m.! She had a Halloween costume parade at her school, where the kindergarten kids wear their costumes for all the older kids. As they were lining up, Julia was checking out the other costumes – she pulled me aside and said “Mom, I think all these people BOUGHT these…[Read more]

  • Nicole, I hope you’ll post photos of everything so we can see! And I hope it was a fun party for everyone, especially the parents! xo

Thank you all so much for your advice and help. I made the cake and saved a small fortune!

@Ann-Maree, I used your excellent idea of two cakes. Whilst Hugo and Co were making speeches and ‘cutting the cake’ a good friend and I were cutting and plating up the other cake, close by.
By the time speeches were done, cake was ready to be eaten.

    Thank you!

  • I have a lot of Christmas sewing planned, whether I get there is another thing.
Is it just me or does ‘linky party’ bug anyone else? Even my Macbook doesn’t want to type it.

    Link up party, maybe?

Hello Lovelies, so nice to read that people are sewing.

Tilly received a last minute 6th Birthday invite and the little girls mother asked me to sew something so nicely, I couldn’t say no. She requested something ‘Kardashian’ style and it took a wee bit of research (by the Twins) to find out that there is a children’s label.

    Luckily, I had a…[Read more]

  • Thanks for starting the mash-up challenge, I can’t wait to see what everyone creates! The black and white challenge was a huge success, everyone did a fantastic job!

In early January we will put a linky party up on the blog for the mash-up challenge, closing it February 5th. It will be a nice gathering place for all of the mash-up creations and…[Read more]

  • I’m with the group: I wash and dry my fabric before cutting and then line dry after sewing. The wash and dry is a just-in-case precaution–because every once in a while something sneaks into the drier. But rayon is a pretty durable fabric, for the most part, so you should be fine with machine washing.

  • The boutique sewer program was discontinued earlier this year: http://oliverands.com/about/boutique/

  • I’m sold! I will wash and dry my rayon!

It is knit mania over here. My mother-in-law is leaving tomorrow after a week’s visit, which has enabled me to do quite a bit of sewing. Tonight I made a wee Field Trip Raglan for the baby, a pair of Playtime leggings for my oldest (size 4 with the length of a 7) and a pair of undies for my second.

Tamara, I’m fortunate to have a long table…[Read more]

  • Yahoo because we have a ‘wide wale’ version on the cutting table, and we’ve never sewn this pattern before {gasp}!

  • I always prewash everything. I make sure when I buy Rayon that it is a kind that can be washed, I don’t have the time to hand wash or to take it to the cleaners.

I typically wash in warm and then dry on medium heat the first time, because there is a very good chance it will eventually slip past me and end up being dried or washed warm so it’s…[Read more]

Hang in there, @dubhels2003 ! Lively babies grow up to be determined people, I think, and as tough as it is now, you’ll never have to worry about anybody pushing her around later in life 🙂

What a nuisance for your fabric to arrive with blemishes, I just hate it when that happens. Glad you were able to fit the pieces in just same!

Ooh, I would love to hear more about your theatre work! My daughter’s ballet school puts on performances at a local theater and they recruit family members who can sew to make their own costumes in house. (My daughter’s not performing, but I love theatrical and film costuming and am always amazed at what they turn out)
