  • There is very little difference in length among the sizes 5-8, looks like about 1/8 to 1/4 inch difference between sizes. They’re all 3.25 inches wide. The size 8 has notches on both long sides at the same point, 9.25 inches from the straight end. The length is 26 and 3/8 for the size eight, measured along the long edge, and the pointy tip is 3/4…[Read more]

  • And indeed you are! I don’t have my copy handy but can check for you when I get home. Jeb, look up at the top of the page and you will see it says discuss>Apple-picking — that will help identify which pattern is being discussed. Also there is only one pattern which has a neck tie, or am I forgetting one?

You might want to have a peek at the older threads about this pattern. Folks who want a tuck-in style shirt often add some length, and there’s discussion there about how much to add for which size.

    I don’t know whether there’s been a second printing…[Read more]

I’m so sorry, Masha 🙁 It hasn’t happened to me yet, but I constantly get other people who think I am overcautious sharing photos of my kid publicly (grandparents) and it is so tiresome to have to prove to each one individually that there really are creeps out there. You really wish people would respect your parental decision! It feels as though…[Read more]

What an interesting topic — now I want to go look for denim! I wonder if I can find anything locally.

  • Funny this thread should pop up again. I got some funny looks over buying what the gal at the shop thought was way too much yardage for a small project — but it had a directional print, and I was making the pattern for the first time. I managed to make SO many mistakes — from tracing the wrong grain line (so I had the print running sideways), to…[Read more]

Thanks for the tips, folks, I’m mulling it all over.

Request for miscellaneous advice, please! I’m sewing a School Days rain jacket and made a bad error — I stitched the front placket to the coat and forgot to put in the loops for the toggles. Should I forgo the toggles and just use velcro alone?

Also, I am a bit nervous about stitching Velcro only to the lining and not all the way through the…[Read more]

I typically try to focus on the positive, even if the best I can muster is, ‘however hard I have it somebody else for sure has it much worse.’ I remember losing sleep and having awful anxiety about nuclear war as a kid. Just want to preserve my child’s innocence for as long as I can, heaven knows it won’t last forever. Sorry to bring the thread…[Read more]

Thank you, Nicole. After recent events nearby it’s really chilling. The contrast between the sweetness of the sentiment in the song, sung in a small child’s voice, and the sometimes-darkness of the adult world is hard to bear right now.
