When sewing the Garden Party dress with out the front waist band, what alterations are done to the back? Has anyone modified the back of the dress or do you just sew the front and back without the band but keep the back gathered seam? Sewing is a stress reliever for me. I sew mostly for my daughter. She is 9 and only wears dresses by choice. Finding ready made that she likes and is comfortable in decent fabrics has been getting harder and harder. Does she need as many dresses and skirts as she has, probably not. Thanks, I didn’t even think to look at the picture on the packet (duh!) I have already made notes on my tracings for next time.

I decided to cut the sleeve a little bit longer (1-1.5″) and did a very narrow hem. I then took a 2″ piece of 1/8″ elastic and stitched that (while stretching) about 1/4 above the hem along the center hem line. It pulled the sleeve down making the sleeve less “poofy” but not too tight for my daughter (who doesn’t like elastic in sleeves). The…[Read more]
