Wow. Everyone sounds super busy. I wish I had the time to see more. I have 3 hopscotch dresses in various states. And a bunch of in a clutch too. I really need to get the book for the messenger bag.

Today I am home with the sick- not really sick daughter. She broke out in a rash last night. Since so many childhood diseases start this way,…[Read more]

  • looking forward to seeing it Tamara!
I finally got some more strap adjustors for the messenger bags I’m making. The first one in purple with tiny white and aqua butterflies with matching aqua accents is looking beautiful 🙂

  • Tamara, I think the dress will be lovely. I suspect the pink and the linen will dress down nicely to the school interview. If the dress was black or satin then it maybe to dressy. But a beautiful dress that fits her and that she feels fantastic in should also give her the confidence she needs for the interview.
It also sounds like it will also…[Read more]

  • @frances-suzanne that’s exactly the size/length I just made for my 4&3/4 year old and no probs at all with head hole size. Have fun. That placket is gold!

  • Great tip, Nicole — I will bear it in mind when making the tiny sizes.

Oh, a big yes to doll clothes! My daughter hasn’t been hugely interested in her doll, but her grandma is taking her out for the full American Girl experience so she’s getting more excited. I’ve been saving the larger scraps from her clothes so I can make coordinating ones for her doll. Might be a good way to extend my shelf life as the in house seamstress?

  • Happy Wednesday! For those of you who are sewing along with us this week, day two is now up!

  • Would a wool jersey work? Or something like this:

    http://www.naturesfabrics.com/rose-wool-pointelle.html

I have a sweater of similar cut as this coat that my mother covets. I’d love to make it in a sweater or lighter jersey so it can be worn indoors during the winter. It gets cold here in the Northeastern US.

  • Thanks @motherof5 and @cybele727 for taking the time to respond!! We will be sewing a size 4T, with added length to the hem, so maybe we’ll be okay :).

  • I found it plenty for the size 5 and 6. My girl has a decent sized noggin and she’s no fan of the tight neck hole.

  • We are finally getting around to sewing this lovely pattern and were wondering the ease of getting it over a child’s head. Should we lengthen the placket slightly (without altering the integrity of the pattern) if our niece is traumatized when pulling ‘tight’ things over her head? IF this would be helpful, has anyone attempted it and what steps…[Read more]

    Great clothes Fiona!

my sewing has just taken a turn I didn’t think it would for another year or so. My girls decided they wanted American Girl dolls for Christmas. This weekend I tried my hand at making some party dresses for them. I found a jumper pattern online that used to be sold by the company. It is very similar to the O+S Music Box…[Read more]

  • @Cathbe, the best way to determine whether you need the twill tape (which I would actually recommend even if you don’t “need” it) is to check the stretch from selvedge to selvedge. If it stretches or if the fabric is quite heady you’ll almost certainly want it. I hope that helps!
