Masha Richart replied to the topic Any thoughts on the Sunday Brunch Jacket from flannel? in the forum oliver + s: sunday brunch 10 years ago
My only hesitation would be how the flannel itself would wear. I think it would sew up fine into the jacket, but I have yet to find a flannel that doesn’t fade and pill horribly after a few washes. I’d subject a sizable swatch to some rough treatment first.
Also, you’d probably want to use a lighter cotton for the bias bindings – flannel on…[Read more]

Adding a plea for a blazer—one that would suit both boys and tweaked for girls!

Thanks LMcS! I do have the Woolly Nylon but have not been able to get it to work for me – maybe I should invest in another bobbin case. Cheaper than the coverstitch, anyway …

Oh, I didn’t take it at all personally, no worries. Just thinking in a broader way about what we do and how it affects the world.
We buy her uniforms from the required seller, only plain white shirts, socks, and shoes are allowed to be purchased elsewhere. I buy her jeans and swimsuits, she has one pair of each … hm. That’s pretty much it. Any…[Read more]

Sarvi, it’s a lovely, creative thing to do and you should definitely not feel guilty. There are much more harmful, expensive hobbies and it’s a wonderful way to express a love of design, colour and texture. Sew more, not less!

That’s a thought-provoking perspective. If what you buy in stores is unethical and what you make at home is excessive then what do you do?

What Sarvi said. You should be able to create a thread within a forum, but the main page we see when we are logged in is recent posts and the each forum. I can’t post on the main page, but can start posts within a certain pattern’s forum/offtopic etc.

I see that too, but if I go to one of the subfora, I get the compose window there. Possibly it’s just set up to prevent you from accidentally creating a new topic in the wrong place?

Ooh @vothgirl I love that! Thanks for the tip! I am going to try it out on my very next pair.
Side note – is anyone else having the same trouble as me with the forums? I still can’t start topics – at the bottom where the compose window usually is on the main forums page, it just says “you cannot create a topic.”

@RTWG, one of the issues of Seamwork magazine had a leggings pattern with a petal cuff (similar to the sleeve on the fairy tale dress). I loved the look – perhaps it would allow for some variety but stick with the easy-to-sew factor of a cuff?

And I really want a coverstitch machine! I love my serger, but I despise sewing on my old machine with knits. So I basically avoid patterns I need to hem. Which is a lot.
