Every year as Christmas draws closer, I see all the beautiful wrapping ideas on Pinterest and think to myself, “this year…this year I will make my gifts pretty!” And each year, I’m down to the wire on finishing the actual gift and end up just (methodically because that’s how I am) slapping some wrapping paper on it :-P. At least last year we…[Read more]

If it’s a behavioral (i.e. not medical) issue, there are nightlights that visually show the child when they’re supposed to stay in bed vs when it’s time to get up – a moon lights up for stay-in-bed time, and you can program the built-in timer to switch to lighting up a sun when it’s ok for them to get up. This is one I was recommended (not…[Read more]

That would be some very precise wrapping 🙂

I also have a wakeful kid, I didn’t get five continuous hours of sleep until well past her second birthday. You are not alone!
Could it be that she is just not yet ready to sleep independently? Could you put her bed in your room or let her sleep with you? It sounds like you are a source of comfort and security for her.
We like having ours…[Read more]

Can’t help, but I’ve just come home from a party, it’s well past midnight and I saw the topic header “go to bed” and I thought, righto I will!
I may have had a few drinks….
Good luck with the kid situation. I’m told they grow up and move out eventually. -

It all sounds exquisite Heidi!
No sewing for me at the moment. Just lots of doctor’s appointments. I am hoping to get to do something tomorrow but will have to be either non machine useage or slippery using the machine. We are forecast for storms and the last thing you want to do during a storm is use your sewing machine!

Summer cleaning and Christmas parties have whacked my sewing time with a big stick.
I hope to start my cousins Christmas dress today. I have made three muslins to get the bodice right and I am so pleased with the fit (so far).Looking forward to Roger!

I do a similar method to Deb but I pin the darts on the outside, then mark the lines on the inside with tailors chalk and transfer the adjustments to the inside.
The same as Deb, this is my method, not necessarily a correct method.
I have not done enough fitting to help you with your particular problem.
I have not made the dress…[Read more] -

All right, the famous Roger is back! Looking forward to it!
I’m afraid the Fairy Tale I’m making is pretty straightforward. I actually just posted a work in progress photo, hoping for ideas for some embellishments to make a bit more ‘fancy’ … I auditioned a few different things but none seemed quite right.

Can’t wait to see a @Sarvi take on the Fairy Tale pattern.
I wish I had time to make a pretty Christmas dress. Instead, I’m burning the midnight oil making a Thread Theory Newcastle cardigan. This one is for a friend of my parents who had modelled the one i made for my dad, and was quite a hit when he appeared on my blog! Yes, Roger will be…[Read more] -

Thanks @meleliza. I think I got the pockets right. I was very impressed with how the zipper was hidden inside one of the pockets.
These culottes are finished such that I need to either shed at least five kilos or gift them on.
I have plenty of fabric to try again, but perhaps not enough time!
I’ll cut just the top five inches out of muslin and…[Read more] -

I use Chrome, which autotranslates the Dutch (which comes out very funny after the machine translation). Lots of suffocating and choking. Her basic concept that you fully assemble the dress, leaving the center back seam completely unsewn. You mark the seam line at the neck edge of the dress, then mark the zip tape at the top of the upper stop,…[Read more]

We’re twins, Robin — I’m making a Fairy Tale too, and also deviating from the instructions in the interest of simplifying it since I’m short of time.
Here’s how I’m doing the invisible zip, though:
