Hi All,

I’m all ready to start in on Ollie’s red school days coat. I’ve had the red corduroy on order with fabric.com since July 7. It was supposed to be back ordered until the middle of Aug, but now the date is estimated to be 9/15. I really don’t want to be starting on his coat the last week of Sept. Last year we had our first snow the first week of Oct.

Fabric.com doesn’t carry the melton wool in red and, believe me, it MUST be red (Ollie is obsessed with red) and the local wool shop’s prices are just too high for a 2 yr old’s coat ($30/yd). I’ve already got the cutest lining fabric to go with red, too.

I’ve searched online to no avail. I’ll be stopping into JoAnn’s this weekend and maybe I can find something there. I’m looking for a heavy, wide wale (4-6W) corduroy. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Here is a gorgeous red wool coating, and it is part of a package–so you can get a two for one purchase 🙂 you may be able to contact them and see if they have the wool listed separately…

Oh, and I have this wool coating in a french blue for my daughter–it has such a great drape and is so warm–I am going to need to sew it soon as the weather is turning colder quickly.

They have red corduroy at http://www.clothkits.co.uk but as you can see it’s a UK site so I’m not sure how much use it would be to you. They are very friendly though, so you might want to see how quickly they could get it to you.

$30/yard for corduroy, holy moly. I can check my local shops this weekend and let you know if I find anything.

I was at Joann’s earlier and they had red corduroy, and it is 30% off corduroy solids right now…I hope you find exactly the fabric you’re looking for!

i just made a red corduroy jacket using red corduroy from fabric.com. i am so happy with how it turned out. the corduroy is so soft and the red color is stunning. it’s not the heavy wide wale, though. i think it was 21 wale. but i love it. there are pics on my blog, if you want to see. maybe you might change your mind. it is dreamy!

Thanks, Mela – I had time to stop into JoAnn this morning before going to a fantastic (and as it turns out expensive) quilt show. I found the red corduroy on sale! Yippie! I had checked their website and they didn’t show red so I was beginning to panic. All set now – thank you all.

No kidding – that would be the corduroy with little golden threads LOL
