  • Fixed my profile picture! Tho it was right side up on my iPhone, it kept loading sideways when I tried uploading it here. Weird. When I emailed it to myself and opened it up on the laptop, it uploaded right side up here in the forums. I’ve no idea why, but at least it’s oriented correctly now!

I haven’t *technically* started my Christmas sewing yet, but I’ve pre-washed some lovely AMH interlock knit to make my mum a Late Lunch tunic as her present. It’s the next project after I finish these field trip cargos! Also on my Christmas sewing to-do list are: stockings for Olivia and my niece (I’m the “stocking-maker” in my family and this is…[Read more]

  • I need some ideas. I have a few teenage boys I’d like to give something small to for end of year/Christmas. I’d prefer to make it but I’m struggling with ideas.
I had thought about the earphone pouches like Nicole made for her midwives. https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/15298456187/
Has anyone with teenage boys got any good ideas? thanks Heidi

What does flip piece mean? I am working on the pajama pants and shirt set. Also the pattern shows number 10 piece hanging off the edge. How do I cut this out? I am so confused. Help. Thank you.

  • I’ve started my Christmas sewing, in fact I started back in September as soon as I finished the last birthday of the year. 🙂
I think I’m about half way through. One of the biggest I was sewing is Elsa’s corronation dress with cape and gloves. The dress is done but not cape or gloves. I’m not sure how I’m going to make gloves!

    I say:
    – crayons (2 syllables)
    – soda (my husband is from Ohio and usually says ‘pop’)
    – swimsuit or bathing suit

    – my husband says “crick” instead of “creek”
    – my mother-in-law “warshes” her dishes as opposed to washing them. Another Midwest-ism, I think.

How do you say “roof” and “mirror”? For me:
    – ‘roof’ pronounced “rufe”
    – ‘mirror’ has two…[Read more]

Swimsuit or bathing suit for swimming, crayons for coloring, and I think I’ll avoid saying ‘dag’ until I’ve spotted it in the wild a few more times, I don’t want to inadvertently offend.

It’s interesting the way meanings change over time, too. Both geek and punk were once things you’d never want to call yourself.

  • b) crayon
    We definitely call it Maccas!

What do you call what you wear swimming?
    a) swimmers
    b) togs
    c) bathers
    d) other?
This is one which changes across Australia depending on which state you are from! Thankfully both the states I’ve lived in call them bathers 🙂

  • Wow! Too cold for the coat! That would be an experience we here never have! Ususally it is too warm for the coat!

I am up to sewing – yay! Done the front bodices and the back and am in the middle of sewing the hood, just got to trim. Then topstitching and applying the extra bits and pieces.

My aim is to get through the vast majority today – and…[Read more]
