  • I’m actually making something for ME – ok, it’s just a t-shirt, but it’s a start! I don’t wear dressy clothes for work generally, so if I can get a great fit on this t-shirt, I plan to make about 20. Come to find out, I must have some freakishly short arms….

My 5 year old got a sewing machine for Christmas, so she is working on a doll quilt.…[Read more]

I’m sure! I really, really appreciated the difference when I started sewing for myself. On tiny garments I didn’t mind doing finicky finishes but on an adult-sized garment that I hoped to wear in this lifetime, it was remarkable how much quicker it was. Good tools are such a pleasure to use.

  • Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.

I feel like I have enough left over from 2014 to fill the first half of this year.

My immediate projects are fabric storage bins to hide (errr.. hold) the toys/mess. And a Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 costume for my 4 year old.

After that I need to finish up last year’s projects — family reunion dress, playtime tunic, a new “wiggle, wiggle”…[Read more]

Thanks for all the advice everyone! The kits were a hit, and my stash got some much needed cleaning for the New Year! (I have hopes that by clearing out things I realistically won’t use it will allow me to focus on and use the rest of my stash!)

I packed it all up in boxes (9 inch wide by 9 inch long by 6 inch height) which I got in the…[Read more]

I think mine is supportive and proud, but that’s not the same as interested. Too bad, he’d be a great knitter.

This year I want to teach my two ‘students’ to knit cables. My MIL and a friend’s daughter both have asked for help with knitting and have taken off with it.

I want to make myself a Bistro dress and another Cinema dress from a…[Read more]

  • Lol!

  • Yes, that’s what I would do. Keep the lining entirely free except at the neckline. Attach lining skirt to lining bodice and then attach the lining to the zip on the inside. For some dresses And an invisible zip, I do this with the machine, though sometimes hand stitching is just as quick, depending on how you must contort things to get them under…[Read more]

I am working madly to finish DD1’s Barbie house before Wednesday. Not a lot of sewing involved in that, but I did sew curtains for it yesterday (to string up on teeny curtain rods, so cute!). Once that is done I really need to finish the Playtime dress I cut out for her, oh, three months ago, before summer when it is too hot to wear it. All I…[Read more]

  • I’m attempting to make bathers for myself, but i’ve stalled on my second muslin as I can’t find the old bra to harvest the hardware 🙁 I’ll have to wait untill I can get into Spotlight tomorrow.

I’ll go back to working on the zip coral fleece lullaby jacket, so soft and cuddley 🙂

  • I think he’s fascinated. Knitting and sewing are skills he respects. Possibly because he’s still impressed that I can turn string into fabric. And bolts of fabric become garments.

Not that his eyes don’t glaze over when I start discussing seam finishing and types of hems. 😉

  • I can’t get past your first sentence!
One thing I know I won’t create is any interest in my sewing hobby from my husband!!
As for the rest, who knows, but I’m sure to have fun. (and I will insist on boring him by showing him anything I’m proud of, over, and over, and over again)
