Thanks so much, everyone, for chiming in with all your different viewpoints and experiences. Hopefully it goes without saying, but just to reiterate, nothing I’ve written about my choices should be read as a comment on anybody else’s choices. What’s right for one isn’t right for all, and I do find it very useful to hear how others think about…[Read more]

Wendy I can’t agree more about what a buzz it is seeing my made clothes being worn again. I just received a gorgeous photo from the UK of a beautiful girl wearing my daughter’s outgrown dress and it felt like such a gift to me!

I haven’t posted here for a while, but this topic really struck a chord with me. I started sewing when my daughter was just over a year old and at the time, as much as I was enjoying the very different and all consuming experience of being at home with my baby, sewing was a godsend. It allowed me to explore creatively in a medium that easily fit…[Read more]

on paper for printing patterns, I use the back of my kids’ school papers, which are usually thin copy paper or mimeograph paper. (I think it is referred to as 20 lb.) To draft or make altered/combined patterns (like when I change the length/move the armscye etc.) I use the grey recycled paper that comes as packing material when you buy stuff from…[Read more]

Oh (slaps forehead) i have that one – it has a racerback style tank too from memory.
Could we please have a men’s version of the sketchbook pattern? Enlarging is a nightmare and I could accept my nine year old wearing Liesl and co because it would look the same as the kid’s version. I cannot jusitfy buying men’s clothes for him though.

@Brittney — have you seen the raglan tee by Jalie (3245)? Not that a Liesl and Co one wouldn’t be great but that one has good reviews.

Yes, I love raglans in theory but they do have the potential to be awful on someone with boobs. A good pattern would be lovely.

Well, for me it’s all tied up in my feelings about consumption, and where our culture is right now in regards to it. I don’t want my daughter thinking that everything is plentiful, cheap and disposable. Clothing is one place that lesson is taught in our household. It feels like a big mix of need, cost, desire, fit, quality, and artistry.

Haha! I need to do that! I saw this gorgeous dress a friend was wearing at church a few weeks ago but of course didnt have the camera – she bought it in New York!

When you walk out of a shop, not loaded up with bags, but with camera shots of everything you want to recreate.

When you’re on a camping trip and at least two (out of 7) the kids at any one time are wearing something you’ve sewn. And none of them are your own kids 🙂
