If you’re using a curly edge knit I wonder if it wouldn’t be worse to have the seam allowances raw…
Personally I can’t leave knits unfinished or unhenmed. Just me, but I strive for my homemade stuff to be worthy in craftmanship of shop bought, if not better.
But then I use an overlocker/serger for knit sewing, so my sewing and finishing is one…[Read more] -

Seam allowances are included.
In the written instructions it will tell you that they’re 1/2″ (as per every Oliver + S pattern.
Be aware that many of us find the hat runs small compared to the suggested age, but quite true to the measured size. Make sure you measure your kids noggin. If in any doubt I’d say go up a size. -

Hi please forgive me but I’m a beginner and I’ve just found the Oliver bucket hat pattern. Can someone tell me if the seam allowances are included in the pattern pieces or do I have to allow an extra 1/4 or 1/2 inch on top of the printed pieces please.
Many thanks.😊 -

I’m washing fabric for messenger bag #2: Goth edition. Messenger bag 1 is in the Flickr group. I’m excited to see the comparison!

I don’t finish seams on knit shirts, ever. It’s not comfy.
I also tend to skip the hems for a relaxed, bohemian vibe.

Nope. If I’m in a hurry, I don’t finish the seams on knits. It will be okay.

Do I really have to finish the seam allowances on the inside of the shirt? For example after I sew the side seams do I need to zigzag over the inside edges? It says to in the instructions but I know knit is not supposed to fray. My daughter is extra picky about comfort otherwise I’d just do it.

Took a break from sewing last night to organize my patterns. I have a few binders and 2 boxes that I store patterns in. And then I decided to count them. Wow, I way underestimated how many I have. 215 is the number. 55 were free (gifts, internet, pattern testing) and 52 have not been sewn. Of the not sewn, 15 are $1.00 patterns from Joann’s.…[Read more]

Oh rats, Audrey!! I’ve made that pattern only once, and I had to sort out the straps several times to avoid mixing them up. So lots of sympathy.

Sorry about the gastro, T, and S, I hope your chap knows how lucky HE is. His birthday present is truly cool! And so different. I finished two size 8 Roller Skates, today, and they both look great – looking fwd to posting on Flickr tomorrow. Both for the same child, and rather late in the season but they are her favourite style to wear, and over…[Read more]

Alright! Another Oliver+S skirt sewn! This time it was the Swing Set skirt and tunic. And I used my favorite fabric line ever. Is it wrong for me to want one in my size? Also, I think my drawstring ended up too short…what do you think? Thanks to everyone who is sewing up Oliver+S patterns and linking them up; it’s getting to be quite a…[Read more]
