You could also go Fairy tale again but do the top white and the skirt black to depict a two piece. I love the animal print idea – once again the mind was read!

@mcholley1 I was thinking of you, after your comment on my blog about your daughter eschewing bright colours, as I’m due to start work soon on a zebra print Fairy Tale dress! Mine is for opening night of Carnival Of The Animals where children are invited to dress up as their fav animal (I vetoed fake fyr onesies!)
A mad print like that on a Fairy…[Read more] -

Because it is always fun to hear all of your ideas….
My daughter wants a black and white recital dress…any fabric/pattern ideas to keep it interesting? We don’t have a dress code. Our “recitals” aren’t formal. Basically, our tiny music school takes over the baby grand at a local nursing home after dinner every few months and plays for the…[Read more]

Very sweet! Now I know what to do with all those buttons I’ve let S buy over the years to reward her for her patience at the trim store…

I just received a text message from Imogen saying they arrived at 6pm last night, that they played “spotlight” on the beach (good thing I put my torch in for her) and that she is sharing a tent with four of the nicest girls in the class – always reassuring! So it sounds as they she is having a ball already.

@cybele we had to pay $420 for this trip and that was even with the fundraising. Imogen didn’t gives the notes from school, thinking we wouldn’t let her go. I only found out it was actually happening when I sat down to read the newsletter! Of course opportunities are few and far between for the kuds up here but even if the cost was high, that was…[Read more]

I know the feeling! I started making my own with scrap muslin, stamps, and fabric ink. Here is a good example what they look like.
My process is this:
1. Pour myself a drink and clear off the coffee table.
2. Interface whatever muslin I have around.
3. Use a pencil and clear ruler to draw grid lines on the muslin. (I’ve found the right size…[Read more]

I sew random unnecessary buttons on ALL the time. For a younger child, it makes them feel like they are contributing to the design and have “buy in” and they wear it with pride. My now 6 year old will sit with me after I’ve culled the selection a bit and chooses. Pockets are a great place for decorative buttons!

Sorry I wasn’t more clear!
This started a few years back when I took my five year old niece to the store to pick out fabric to make her and her sister Tinkerbell and Periwinkle dresses. (Periwinkle is Tinkerbell’s long lost twin sister for those of you who haven’t watched Secret of the Wings) We were all set to check out with materials for two…[Read more]

OH I am sorry about Buddy. We have an older girl whom I think it is time to go, but my husband can’t do it. She’s 13 with bad arthritis and a lipoma, and these weird growths that hang off her body and bleed. She’s got cataracts and she’s getting weird. Senile, and begging incessantly. The other day, she got up on her hind legs and put her front…[Read more]

My twelve year old went off on her school trip to Ningaloo today. We had to get her to school by 5.45am to leave by 6am. That meant getting out of bed by 4.30! I was up anyway, feeding the baby. She was excited but nervous and I have to admit I had a bit of a cry when she left in the car with my husband to go to school. It is the first time she…[Read more]
