  • Supposedly only happens once every 10 years. The last one was 2004. This is also the first time in 29 years that it snowed to sea level, snow on the beach! πŸ™‚

Happy sewing Heidi! I better not tell my kids about the snow day, they’d want to move to Tassie!

  • I get a snow day! Once about every 10 years it snows to sea level in Tasmania. And today’s that day πŸ™‚ Snow at my house! This is the first one I’ve experienced since I’ve been here so it’s pretty and cool πŸ™‚
Beautiful to look at, school closed I get a sew day πŸ™‚

  • I would really like a long sleeved dress that doesn’t feel too practical! I know there are several three quarter length sleeve dress patterns, and I could lengthen them, but I would really enjoy another long sleeved dress. Ideally something more ‘party-like’, like the garden party or fairy tale. I guess i’m thinking that sleeves will be the order…[Read more]

  • A tulle circle skirt is a genius idea as that gets around having to seam the tulle.
However, the Fairy Tale dress has a zipper that crosses the waist seam which would complicate things if you wanted the tulle on the outside. Maybe I’m being unambitious but I think an invisible zipper and layers of tulle will not go nicely together.
    You might need…[Read more]

It sounds wonderful Heidi. I hope you post pictures for us to see it when its is complete.

After what seems like weeks not sewing I am finally able to and am in the process of cutting a apair of denim afterschool pants for ChloΓ«. This will be followed by Jalie jeans for Imogen and Jalie denim trousers (jeans for Noah). All in a bid to have them…[Read more]

  • what are your favorite sites to browse for ideas? Just brainstorming as it is a whole schoolyear away (April 2016) but if previous years are any indication, my daughter’s school tends to go rather big. I can do big and princessy, but I’d also like to have some meticulous wouldn’t-do-this-for-anyone-but-family handwork, and of course really…[Read more]

  • I’m enjoying the free motion embroidery I’m doing on my denim quilt. Lots of words and a few pictures. Yes, it’s very time consuming but also encouraging me to spend lots of time praying for my friends, who will be the recipient.

  • I have made the fairytale dress with a circle skirt a few times, it is hands down one of dd’s favorite silhouettes. Basically, you want to draft a doughnut with the diameter of the center circle being the hip measurement/3 (or measure, then lay out the tape in a perfect circle.) Then measure outward from that how long you want the skirt to be, and…[Read more]

I have had good experiences with Onlinefabricstore.net. I plan to get some of this to make dd new uniform skirts:
    navy brushed 100% cotton twill

it seems pricey but it is 60″ wide so good value. they also have a
regular (not brushed) cotton twill… this is the more hardy stuff that is not as soft, have used this for ds’ pants.

@vothgirl I am so glad you are finding a way to cope with PD. My sister suffered and still does I think and her son is six! It can be dreadful but I am so glad you are able to manage it. Are you having counselling also?

I have just gotten home from Geraldton after a day’s jaunt with the family and hubby came in to announce that my back tyre has…[Read more]

Maggie, so sorry about your break-in. Even though you didn’t lose anything terribly sentimental an event like that can leave you quite unsettled. My husband and I experienced a similar event (although all the thieves took was our television) 3 months before our first baby was born – we came home from work to find our front door kicked in. I felt…[Read more]
