Sorry it took me so long to respond, I have been under the weather this week. (My kids were ever so lovely to share with me) I used Cindy’s as guild that she has on her blog and I know I have this posted on McStitches blog as well but can’t seem to find it. I do remember that I added about 4″ to width and height and made the sides longer to fit.…[Read more]

When sewing the neck facings on to a playtime tunic I sewed the wrong side of the facing to the right side of the bodice.
At first I thought maybe I’d be able to get away with it since it just folds to the inside but the fabric was dark navy blue and the interfacing I’d used was white and you could tell when looking at the button placket at the…[Read more]

Yes that’s right! So the lunchbox tee in fleece would be considered a jumper or pullover (in your case a sweater) and the music box jumper is what we would consider as a pinafore.

I love Robert Kaufman fabrics! Already planning some of his lawn to make a couple of blouses, but I’m having trouble figuring out which fabrics to buy for the heavier garments. I went to the Purl Soho warehouse and everything seemed either too heavy or too fragile (like linen blends). I shall look around again!

Thank you! These both look nice and the price is not bad at all! She’s so teeny I can get a couple of jumpers and skirts from just a few yards of fabric.

I should try one of our bigger JoAnn’s. I tried the closest store, but they only had 100% polyester fabric. Thank you! Worst case I can order online, but I like to feel it first if I can.

Oh no! The things we do in a hurry! (or at least that is me!)
Yesterday I got this beautiful Cotton and Steel print in cotton lawn. I am making a jumper (pinafore??). I purposefully traced and cut and interfaced and marked yesterday. At 8:30 I stopped. Hubby asked if I was done for the night and I said, “I am tired of making mistakes… I am…[Read more]

Lightening… I love that… my love of stripes and cheap fabric…
I will check out that link and also look at the idea of soaking and stretching to match it up a bit.
But so frustrating. Especially since I made a bunch of bland boring solid skirts to be a base for school clothes, and this was supposed to be the “fun” skirt!
Nicole, I will…[Read more]

Hi Nicole and Renee, Thank you both so much for your responses! So it looks like you fold it to the top of the waistband ( not over to the facing side) , edge stitch, and cut the remainder off on the underside of the loop ( just like the directions indicate but the pictures you sent clarify ).
Thanks so much, as always, for your help! -

You could try this method

I remember my mum trying to do something similar when I was a child.

My love of stripes and cheap fabric has led me to this problem a couple of times.
With the fabric wet you may be able to realign it so that the selvedges meet and the stripes are vertical, or maybe not.
I would cut so that the striped pattern is true and figure that a small degree off straight grain is workable. -

This is one I recently made with the top of the loop folded over and sewn to the top of the waistband.
