I have a janome (but then all my machines are Janome). Unfortunately I don’t use it enough because of the size of my sewing table (it has to be squished up the back until I need it). There is a trick to getting the threads out so they don’t unravel but it is easy to master. I haven’t had an issue so far. This one you can do one two or three…[Read more]

I bought a Babylock Diana after so many rave reviews about the Babylock brand (my sewing machine is a Bernina). The Diana is a serger/coverstitch in one and I love it. Transitioning from one function to the other is not difficult or time consuming. I’ve sewn on the Babylock coverstitch at my local shop and it was very nice too. I went with the…[Read more]

Hi,
I had a Janome CPX 1000 before, for 4 years. But it was a pain to use. Lot of skipped stitches, unable to sew over a seam, unable to sew in slippery fabrics, or to stretchy, etc.
I had the opportunity to try the Babylock coverstitch. It was a charm to use. I sold the Janome and bought a Babylock. I never regretted that decision.

Here is the bodice. So you can see the sleeve!

So I am lusting after a coverstitch machine. (In case its different in Aus, I mean the twin needle hems you see on RTW tshirts) I already have a serger so it doesn’t necessarily need serging features.
I am eyeballing the Janome 1000cpx due to price, reviews etc, but wondered if there are others I should be open to?

A monochrome sew-a-long? What a great idea, I’d definitely be in!

So many beautiful and clever ideas, maybe there should be a black and white sew along. Only rule: no color. It can be such a sophisticated color palette for the holidays!

Oh…so many ideas! You ladies don’t disappoint…. It is so fun to dream of all the dresses I “could” make. The girl has decided on spots….black with white spots to be specific. She wants a “twirly skirt”….of course in this case I really want to make the Hide and Seek.

High praise! Wow! Your mum sounds as critical as mine – my mum thinks she can buy clothes for my kids and I won’t mind! I see that as highly insulting!
In the past I have been successful by entering things with smocking or embroidery (or both) on the baby/toddler items. I know that not alot of people in the area do this so it means that my item…[Read more]

I’ve cut the pattern out of pink w/white polka-dot knit. It is from “Weekend in the City” line from 3-4 years ago. I’m making size 8 for my great niece. I cut a piece cross grain of the dress fabric for the casing, but now realize it is too stretchy. How do you calculate length of knit fabric to use for the casing? My great niece loves the the…[Read more]

I have the collar and placket done. It is lusciously beautiful if I do say so myself. Even my rather critical mother saw the fabric combo and said, “ooh that’s lovely!” High praise indeed! I fiddled just right and feel like a placket rock star! But I am doing it slowly so as not to err in haste.
@justsewit, are you using the layette?…[Read more]

I managed to correct and finish two pairs – one each for the kids. Imogen’s were perfect on her but Noah’s stretched and he needed to wear a belt. I gently lectured him over the importance of cooperating when measuring him so that he could wear clothes that were just right not too big or small. He has promised to not stick his tummy out…[Read more]

Ooh. That late night sewing costs me more in time and productivity.
I’m working on a jumprope. Slowly.
