Wow I think you’ve been busier than all of us combined @katybellabug. It is so lovely to hear from you again @lattemama.

The buttonholes are stitched onto the family reunion and puppet show dresses but they are still waiting for buttons. I have commenced work on my very first birthday dress which is rather exciting. I am currently up to…[Read more]

Just checking in, it’s been a while! Blame the holidays.

You have all been so busy! I have been sewing but it has been a run of school uniform, which I am always enthusiastic to start but by the time I am doing my last buttonholes, I am flagging!
I’ve still got to photograph everything, but I have done Lunchbox Culottes, Music Class Blouse,…[Read more]

I haven’t sewn much of anything all summer so I decided to ease into it with a simple project of a Field Trip tee for Picture Day on Monday. I used a soft knit fabric with chocolate biscuits on it and she didn’t want to take it off after the first try-on. I had to convince her that knits need hemming too.

I also need to trace the size 10 Field…[Read more]

  • Thanks for the encouragement, I took the plunge and ordered! I should have fabric by next week, exciting!

Nicole, I have seen some of the projects you have made with the reversed nap, it does look beautiful! Thanks for reminding me!

I will update with my progress on the jacket. I haven’t been too productive with my sewing lately what with my…[Read more]

  • Lisa, I think you latest fabric choices are perfect! It looks like a wonderful pattern. I’m interested to find out how you go with it as I have a feeling my own teen will be wanting one when our winter rolls around again.

  • Oh, also shoes. Somebody outgrew her dress shoes.

Does anyone want to spam me with pictures of pretty party shoes? Please be aware that the child who will be wearing these shoes is allergic to grey and brown.

ETA: I think those who have reservations at the Music Class blouse are wise, and while I love that blouse, I’ve made it before, and I’m…[Read more]

  • That grey cord is yummy!
Liesl recommended reversing the nap of the cord for a really lush look, I always do that now and it does look wonderful.

I crazy love that lining fabric. If you are worried you will be too warm (which I doubt, in Canada brrr) you could line the sleeves with the silk stuff and use a cotton or lawn for the body or just the back?

  • The Music Class skirt is super fast, and the ones I’ve sewn up in cord before have held up well.

The blouse will take me longer, but I love pin tucks.

Next steps: order fabric, clean my room!

  • Yes we are. The time will fly by if you make a monochrome item? Well that’s what I am doing while waiting anyway.

That’s a good question Sarvi. I have no clue!

I find it funny how it is just Flickr I seem to have issues with. I have slowed down the speed at which I type the message and then click (I pause between the two) if this is what you mean. It doesn’t make a difference. Some pictures I have success with while others I have to give up on. Its a…[Read more]

How do you control the speed of the click?

  • I love the Kaufman London Calling line, it’s a pleasure to sew. I vote for the Butterfly set as I recall the Music Class being not the world’s quickest sew. You know your own sewing though, if you’re familiar with it and feel confident, I’m sure you’ll get loads of use from the blouse, in particular, well after the recital. I’d go for a darker…[Read more]

  • I am also considering using a corduroy for the exterior and a satin lining. Given that it’s my first time making this pattern as well as the first time making grown up clothes it might be best to keep it simple and not have to worry too much about pattern matching. It wouldn’t be a winter coat with these fabrics but would be okay for the shoulder…[Read more]

  • Thank you Nicole for your advice! No need to feel mean, it would be terrible to pay all that money just to end up with something unusable! I’m excited to take a look at eBay, I had never thought to look there for fabric. You linked to some really cute ones! 🙂

@needlewoman hope your mind has stopped boggling. Boxer shorts complete and a very happy hubby. He says “I’ve waited fourteen years for you to make me something” – happy anniversary babe!

Next I have to turn my attention back to completing the blue puppet show dress and the family reunion dress which just requires buttons.

    The white puppet show…[Read more]
