Sew Alongs 9 years agoI definitely think these sew a longs are helpful! Even if people do not make the patterns during the time frame (like me, I made 6360 afterwards) I always look for these when tackling a new pattern. The tips and tricks are so useful!

What is a ‘lounge set’ for children? I am supposed to make one by Friday, but not sure I have ever seen a 6 year old lounge.

@todd if sewing for you means I “have to” take a trip to Spain for fittings then yes, I will volunteer. Can’t make any promises about the quality of my work, post-sangria. Might find my husband and daughter suddenly making themselves invaluable as tracers of patterns and stitchers of buttons.

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI’m another no-intentional-bra-strapper, and while I keep meaning to buy a different style of bra that will allow me to wear a racerback style (which I actually find very comfortable as well as liking how it looks) I somehow have never gotten around to it, which probably reveals something.

Way to go @harmony it’s a nice feeling, knowing you’re learning and improving with every garment.
I just cut the welts open on the jacket I’m making. Doesn’t matter how many times I sew a welt, the moment when you slash them open is nerve wracking.
Add in that this is the most expensive fabric I’ve ever bought and it’s taken a week to get the…[Read more] -

Right now I’m working on a pair of Field Trip cargo shorts in pink sprinkle quilting cotton for the younger one. I was a little apprehensive about the number of pieces in the pattern, but it’s coming together very quickly.
I just finished up a skort for the older one that (drum roll, please) did not have the word easy on the front of the…[Read more]

@jennigirl sounds like great projects. You will be busy for the fair. I know I have to think out what my entries will be this year but I have a bit of time as entries for our Ag show don’t close until July and the show itself isn’t until late September. I might make another Bistro dress for the women’s section and am undecided about the children’s…[Read more]

@thejennigirl I had no idea it took so long to have a vaccination for rabies. We don’t have rabies in Australia (thankfully). It would have been very scary indeed! My Aunty had her eye ripped out when a small child by a dog that lived next door to them. It was discovered that the children walking to school would tease it. She went to play with…[Read more]

@jennigirl Thankyou. The great thing was that I didn’t have to pay a thing. Those guys were fantastic. But it was very embarrassing just the same. I really do feel out of my depth when it comes to machinery.
The thing is my husband did a tyre rotation before I left for the weekend. And because of his injuries, his muscle mass is not as high as…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI love racer backs, all my favorite tops and dresses have them. I find that if I situate my straps appropriately they barely show, but I wouldn’t care if they did. I do have a little clip thingy that hooks on the straps between the shoulder blades for fancier affairs at which visible straps might be a faux pas.

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoNot for me I’m afraid. I really haven’t (deliberately) shown my bra straps since my early 20s, and I don’t intend to! Yes for evening and sports wear but I have no need for evening wear.

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoAround this neck of the woods..teen girls show straps and most moms don’t, so I guess it depends on the target for this pattern? I prefer shirts that I don’t have to find/wear a “special bra” with. But if it had a built in that would make the difference. 🙂

I like the idea of sewing for my husband, and I know he’d wear things I made for him, but practically speaking, I rarely even sew for myself. I know I’d buy and use a pajama bottom pattern, but I’m not sure how often I would make even a staple item that was more complicated. I might feel differently if my son is still willing to wear Mom-made…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoI like spaghetti strap tops, but only if I can get away with being braless in them (I’m small-breasted, so that usually means layering with a snug tank). Racerback tops always look like activewear to me, and I definitely wouldn’t wear one that showed the bra band itself. I am not a fan of visible bra straps – I think it looks sloppy (and that’s…[Read more]
