My threenager is all about zip front jersey hooded tops. She also loves pink, and anything soft. I now accept that I’m better sewing her things she likes and will wear, as opposed to what I like. I’ve seen some cerise stretch velour which she would LOVE and would be very cosy for winter. In an attempt to get her to wear anything other than…[Read more]

@kmac0107 Kim, do you mind if the trim shows on the reverse side?
If you don’t then it would be as simple as turning up the hem allowance, pinning the trim to the underside then stitching it on while stitching the hem.
If you want to go fancier…. You could try the following:
Trim off any hem allowance in excess of a 1/2 seam allowance. Line up…[Read more] -

What great value @reeni.
I am onto about my fifth muslin for the ginger jeans – finally caved on that pattern. I think I know what to adjust where in order to get them perfect. Then I can make a cone denim pair and a black pair. The black ones are intended as a show entry but, I think I have just discovered a case of hand foot and mouth disease…[Read more]

Haha @liesl, 7th grade boys are apparently too cool to smile anymore… he was however, looking forward to being with his friends every day!
AK Fabrics on 39th Street (in between Vardhman and Beckenstein/Fabric Czar) has been my source for this plaid since dd started at this school! I went berserk looking for it online and whatever, but of course…[Read more] -

I went berserk looking for it online and whatever, but of course they had it right there for a great price… and so much better quality (a washable wool/poly blend) than what the uniform companies make…[Read more]

Is there a tutorial that shows the best way to add cotton lace trim to the hem of the Swingset Skirt and to the sleeves of the Butterfly Blouse? Thank you for your help.

I love 21-wale cord! Yes, I think it will work just fine. How fun that you found good colors, too!

@reeni, so cute! Your daughter looks excited, while your son looks a little less thrilled to leave summer behind. I’m totally on his side.
Wow, you can buy regulation fabric to do your own uniform sewing? That’s neat!

I am hoping to sew some corduroy art museum and/or after-school pants for my almost-three-year-old for the fall. Do these work well with the light, 21-wale corduroy? I’m thinking that it will be too lightweight, but I haven’t found a good source for heavier corduroy. Fabric.com has some 14-wale, but the color selection is much more limited than…[Read more]
