Hi @fitdoc
I am going to make it no secret how much I like Janome machines. I didn’t learn on one but my first machine was one and I have stuck with them since. I would strongly encourage you to go to a dealer and just have a look. Often they will let you play or they can give you a demo of the ones you like the look of. Websites are also good…[Read more]

I really hate to say this but my sewing drive is gone and nowhere to be found! I have some beautiful fabrics here on hand, Sarah Jane to be exact, and I am still stuck at zero. I have printed off the new size in patterns for my daughter and even cute out a top from the Building Block dress but I still have yet to sew. I even sewn a few quilt…[Read more]

OK outgrown my 15 year old basic singer 5817. I do a lot of garment sewing (maybe a garment a week) and now getting into quilting (mostly random blocks and incorporating into pouches/totes) but hoping to make 5 bed quilts this year.
Must haves (that I don’t have now)
one step buttonhole feature
needle down position
ability to lower feed…[Read more] -

I haven’t purchased directly, by my mentor (Lynda Maynard) suggests Sarah Veblen’s store for any fabrics that need an exact color on any weave of silk. (You may not be looking for silk, of course). She can match the color into any type of silk. Here’s the site, in case it works for you: http://www.sarahveblen.com/silks.php

I’m making a junior bridesmaid dress and bow tie soon and am currently sourcing fabric swatches. I need to match a periwinkle (Pantone 15-3919). Tell me your go-to fabric stores, please! I’ve already done mood and farmhouse fabrics but still feel like I haven’t found “the one” yet.

I just sewed view b for my 9 year old who is broad across the shoulders and very very pre boobies. The size 12 with 1.5 inch length added does fit her but seems it would be more giving if I moved it a bit off the fold and dropped the arm pit a bit to make bigger arm holes. I think it would pull a bit less. How would I adjust the size of the…[Read more]

Just chiming in to say that fabric stencilling is addictive! 😀 I taught myself how so I could do some costumes and for a while I imagined everything stenciled.

That’s fantastic! Perfectly Totoro for those of us in the know, but not at all costume-y.
Now you can stencil paint ALL THE THINGS! 😂 -

Thank you @lightningmcstitch!! The freezer paper stenciling came out great. I found a fabric spray paint which made it very easy to use. She loves her Totoro dress!

My preference is Bemberg: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Bemberg
Other types of rayon can be ok, too, but I prefer the hand feel of the Bemberg. Hope that helps!
