Thanks, @liesel, for your feedback. I would love to one day take a fitting class with you to understand fit and my body shape. I am wearing my skirt today!

@juliarhodes, did you check the finished measurements chart? That’s often the best way to determine which size you want to make, since it gives you the actual finished measurements which you can compare to your body and where you want the waistband to sit when it’s done. You might also want to compare it to other clothes that fit the way you like.…[Read more]

I ended up making the skirt, size 12, even though my waist calls for size 14. It still was too big and I had to take in an additional 1/2 inch. Am I measuring my waist incorrectly? I do like the finished product despite the alteration.

On page 20 they show the variation E dress. But in the description is says ” closures/lining: lined bodice with front bottoms..”
so I’m assuming the lining is only part of the shaped neckline correct. Its not that there is lining past the darker blue neckline?
I want to make this with short sleeves and skip the princess seams and just do the…[Read more]

Enbee replied to the topic Adding in-line pockets in the forum oliver + s: sleepover 8 years ago
Hi, Liesl – I mean pockets that use the outside of the pants as the outer layer and have a pocket bag? The kind that aren’t patch pockets? Sorry – I’m not sure of the correct terminology, clearly!
It’s not the pocket construction itself that worries me (I’ve drafted new pocket shapes before), it’s where to divide the one-piece Sleepover pant…[Read more]

Sorry, what do you mean by in-line pockets? We cover lots of different pockets and pocket construction in the Building Block Dress book. Does that have what you need?

I’ve added patch pockets to the Sleepover pants once, but I’d really prefer in-line pockets this go-round (matching Dad/son PJs for Father’s Day). I’m planning to use the Art Museum pockets and am inclined to split the pants at the existing pattern notch. Or should I split the pattern closer to the pants front instead? Since the whole waistband is…[Read more]

A raglan sleeve is really a patternmaking technique rather than a pattern alteration technique. It’s quite complicated. I’d suggest starting with a pattern like the Carousel Dress, like Lightning suggests, so you don’t need to draft the sleeve yourself.

That’s such a wholesale change, I’d probably come at it the other way. Start with a raglan sleeve block pattern, such as the Field Trip tee, then use Building Block Dress Book techniques to create the changes (lengthening, A-line etc) that you want.

Hi, I bought the book building block dress, I wonder if you know a web page, that shows, how to alter the sleeve to a raglán one.
Thanks, Irune Zeberio

Thanks All!!! You’ve been a great help.
I finally ordered it from Wawak and can’t wait to try it on a chiffon hem. I never seem to do them well and am looking forward to finally accomplishing that!
