For the record: If you accidentally trace the size 10 waistband and facing, don’t try and attach it to the size 5 shorts. Doh.
Stuff up resolved. -

I finished a hopscotch which was quickly on its way to becoming a UFO. It only lacked for side seams and hemming. So I pounded it out. Girlfriend has 4 hopscotch now. If I made a 5th she’s wear them exclusively I think.
I was in the principal’s office for a check in on the new placement and she said that she saw her in one of those dresses.…[Read more]

Funny this thread should pop up again. I got some funny looks over buying what the gal at the shop thought was way too much yardage for a small project — but it had a directional print, and I was making the pattern for the first time. I managed to make SO many mistakes — from tracing the wrong grain line (so I had the print running sideways), to…[Read more]

The big navy back to school sewathon was going great guns, but now I’ve had a stuff up.
Somehow, the front waistband of my Class Picnic shorts was too big. My fabric had a bit of stretch, so I made it fit. Doh. Big, sticky out wavy waistband.
It will need to be unpicked, shortened, and reattached.
Tomorrow.
Nit sure where I went wrong. I’m usually…[Read more] -

For Halloween I bought a big 4 and the recommended fabric amount plus 1/2 yd. I followed the layout carefully and still not enough. I had 58 inch when it called for 44. Still not enough. I had to rig the layout and the pieces piecemeal to sew up a silly blue panne velour robe for a costume. Let me tell you the time I lost and the $$ (to the…[Read more]

OOH thank you. That’s good to know. You are right of course. The notcher would not work on fabric.

That’s a shame, I am to the point where I want and crave a nice, detailed and technical sew. I long for a four scissor pattern. The simple ones do get made, and they are wardrobe staples, but I fear I am going to get bored and it won’t be fun or a challenge any more.

I can’t even imagine the complaints we would get about the number of pattern pieces if we had lined it! People are very intimidated by a large number of pattern pieces. Never mind that it sews up quickly, it’s the number of pattern pieces. And that goes for the Lisette patterns too. If it has a lot of pieces people won’t buy it. Sometimes I get a…[Read more]

By the way, it really isn’t hard to rub off a pair of jeans that fit you well and alter the pattern to fit you even better. I should do a video tutorial for that one of these days!

I like Cone denim. And I LOVE the Japanese denim, but you never see that available as yardage. Sadly. But here’s a source for Cone that I contemplate every once in a while. I’d go for the 12.5 oz rigid. But that’s just me. And my relatively powerful sewing machine.

Sadly, Mood’s denim isn’t usually up to snuff. But like I said, I’m a really picky customer. I don’t buy jeans very often, and when I do I expect them to last for a really long time. I wear them until they’re more holes than denim. But I do have trouble finding a good fit, so I’d be willing to sew them if I could find the right denim (and time!).

Yes, @motherof5, yes regarding lining the Secret Agent trench!
I own the pattern and have never made it – and I admit it’s because I prefer a lined jacket. I worry that my version would end up too bathrobe-like and not be worn.
Could you link to your blog post about lining it and I’ll check it out…please!

I’ve heard the Jalie pattern is quite good. I’ve always resisted jeans because it’s nearly impossible to find really good quality denim! Any good sources? I’m picky, but if I’m going to take the take to sew jeans I want to use premium denim like you’d find in a pair of expensive jeans.

I wonder if the Secret Agent was a lined jacket if that would have made a difference.
My blog post re lining it gets a lot of hits.I like @reeni idea of a multi size system too.
A shirt/blouse and a new shorts pattern would be super appreciated too.
