@Sarvi if you ever want to make something purely for the fun of it then know that i’ll be cheering you on! I seem to be about 50:50 these days on things that are practical and useful, and things that stem from an idea that just had to be made to preserve my sanity! that creative itch can be so strong.
I don’t know many people with older kids, but…[Read more] -

A couple of you ladies have touched on the very good point that even when you receive in abundance, there is still a creative itch that one wants to scratch. I guess I’d never ask myself, how many poems are too many? How many paintings are too many? And yet even though I put as much if not more time and effort into my child’s clothes, I still feel…[Read more]

I would love a Liesl + co raglan tee. I have tried two other patterns out there in PDF land and I just know L+C would fit so much better. Sigh.

I absolutely second @justsewit – I would absolutely make both items for me (and my husband) to wear; maybe not together, but I would definitely wear a polo for work (in fact, I do quite often), and my husband does as well – and my husband and I both live in sweats in the house.

Creative roadblock. Roller Skate in dress or Tunic!!!!:????? I can’t decide. LOL I might have to make the dress, then trim the hems later.

I say if you want to make them and you have the time, go for it and don’t feel guilty! They will become lovely handmedowns to someone else someday 🙂

Ha! I love this thread. My husband bought the girls’ xmas pj bottoms this year because I ran out of time to make them and the mismatched side seams drove me bananas!
You know you’ve been sewing too long when . . . someone in your family mentions needing to go somewhere and your first thought is “are there any good fabric stores nearby?” and “if…[Read more]

When you leave a clothing store empty handed because you could make it better/higher quality.
(Stripes and patterns not lining up in RTW drive me insane!)

I was thinking about this thread today. We are blessed/cursed with abundant handmedowns from friends, and as I am very much a waste-not-want-not kind of a gal, I always use everything that fits, is made of natural fibers, and is not super-ugly or inappropriate for my children. This summer that means that they have plenty of clothing. I am…[Read more]

You spend the better part of a church service scrutinizing the priest’s vestments/a particularly beautiful Easter dress/insert-other-garment-here, looking for seam lines and trying to figure out how they were put together.

Thanks, Nicole. I have it set aside. With Liberty I am a bit nervous to proceed without knowing for sure. With how fine it is, I don’t want to puncture the fabric too many times if I am wrong. I feel so out of practice.

When you’re looking at clothing in a Target catalogue and because the dress is made in a dark background floral you go looking all over the page for the line drawing so you can see the details of the dress!

Just found your Part 2. 🙂 I noticed you made the smaller size so I wonder if this is significant to the larger sizes.
Have you or anyone else made it in the larger sizes yet? What did you do?

Thanks for the link, Nicole. I did look at that last night but I only saw the Part 1 with the back bodice. Do you have the link to Part 2? I couldn’t find it on the blog. I have that back part finished but am wondering about the two notches on the pattern (and dot alignment) vs three notches in the illustrations and different dot alignment. I…[Read more]

Does anyone have suggestions for irons? I had a Rowenta for the last 4.5 years and for the last, really, 1.5+ years it’s been leaking. The last week it has gotten worse—so much so, I am worried it would become a fire hazard.
So, I’m in the market for a new iron. I’d love a tiny, cordless one, but I’m open to ideas/pricing!

I hear you @cybele727 One of the things I dislike about my home printed patterns is that I can’t see through the paper, so matching stripes and patterned fabric is much harder. Thus I end up tracing the pattern anyway. My interfacing tracings are flexible, translucent and hold up to being pinned over and over. Find me printer paper like that and…[Read more]
