Selfishly I hope it isn’t Helena! And my sister’s name is Alice, maybe my folks were choosing from Queen Vic’s kids’ names?! I really like my name and I like that it isn’t too strange but isn’t an everyday name, and I would rather it didn’t become too commonplace. Not that it really matters in the bigger scheme of things I don’t suppose!

We’ll see. Their are so many lovely royal girls’ names to choose from. The child was 8lbs 3oz – very sturdy.

Awww T, can’t wait to see that. I finished the Popover #8 last night, _ the one that didn’t make the post in time, and have spent most of day taking advantage of sunshine to chose fabrics for a variety of projects. Job done, but my feet are killing me, and the mess I was attempting to clean up is not much improved. But I think I’m ahead on points.…[Read more]

Really looking forward to hearing what names have been chosen; a good friend and I are punting for Alice, and/or Helena. I think that there is also a reasonable chance of ‘Margaret’ being included in the “string”. (This was the name of the current Queen’s sister, and only sibling, dear Republicans).

Cooking and Baking 11 years agoJust had the most fantastic jacket potatoe dinner with friends 🙂 Jacket potatoes, tomato mince sauce (spag bol sauce), grated cheese, bacon, corn on the cob as well as tomatoes, carrot and cucumber sticks.
There were 9 of us, 4 adults, 2 6′ tall teenagers, and 3 kids. I cooked 14 large potatoes but next time I think I need 20 potatoes, I…[Read more] -

I just found this via instagram http://www.stitchingupparis.com How awesome would a guided shopping tour of the out of the way fabric stores of Paris be?! Possibly too late for @mariasasse but maybe of use here as a reference.

Plush Addict, a UK based online fabric store is selling some tana lawns, which are Liberty Lawns but are not the ‘A’ grade rolls sold in store at £15 per metre-ish. A great deal if you are not put off by any slight flaws. With a busy pattern they probably wouldn’t be noticeable. It is all above board/legal and is not ‘knock off’ fabric (I have asked!).

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 11 years agoHey all, I just sewed my first entredeux and was SHOCKED at how easy it was! I’ll do a little tutorial for the Butterfly Dress sew-along. I was thinking I’d do a little pintucking tutorial, too, using a double needle and a pintucking foot. All these new (to me) techniques! Very fun, and so much simpler than I expected.
-
What? You are kidding right? They are so simple you are right but you know I thought the same when I first tried them. They are such pretty techniques. I am very glad there are tutorials coming about them all. But, I thought the butterfly was a top?
-
Ack, yes, the Butterfly Top! No idea why I said dress. In any case, I love these techniques.

cybele727 replied to the topic How thin is too thin for knits? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 11 years ago
This is actually what prevents me from buying more knits. Not the sewing, but the actual purchase. I need to find a book that has little swatches of fabric in it with labels. Then I could use that as a reference when I search google. I know what I am asking for, and google hopefully, helpfully provides that. I realize it means that the seller…[Read more]
