What a fun thread! @meleliza, I also love the Christmas in the city atmosphere, although I have yet to experience the cities you mentioned! During the years I lived in the Chicago area, we would often brave the wind chill and go down to Michigan Ave.

My most spectacular holiday experiences would definitely have to be the few times I spent NYE on Sydney Harbour. I’ve never seen fireworks or festivities on that scale since. My friends and I would afterwards head to the beach to watch the sun rise on the new year.

Now that I’m older, have little kids, and prefer to not willingly pull all-nighters, I gravitate towards things a little more local and kid-friendly 🙂

What I’m actually struggling to plan are birthdays! My older daughter is turning 3 on Dec 31, and my baby will be 1 in early January. My wallet is taking a beating this holiday season, and I fear their birthdays will just be holiday afterthoughts!

    Sanga – sandwich
    snag – sausage
    loo – toilet

That’s hopefully remembering correctly – it’s been over 10 years since I’ve lived in AUS! I’ve had too many influences on my colloquial English over the years and now have a mishmash vocabulary (and a currently Chicago/Midwest accent). I find myself adopting the lingo of wherever I live, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to order a soft drink!

Thanks for the encouragement and replies!

Nicole, I actually just bought that pattern a couple weeks ago and can’t wait to put it to use. My daughter is on the petite side and I don’t like buying clothes that have “room to grow” because she takes forever to fill them out. It will be nice to sew pants more appropriate to her measurements.

I hope you all don’t mind me jumping in this conversation despite being pretty new around here. I read back a few pages and all the projects sound so lovely.

I recently went to the mall to purchase some long pants for my almost-3yo daughter and was just so discouraged by how little I could find that met my standards for quality and fit – and I’m not THAT picky! She is in between sizes and it was hard to find something that worked. I wish I were skilled enough to just whip up a whole new wardrobe for her! (Maybe by next winter!)

Right now I am making some matching playtime tunics for her and baby sister (10 months old) out of some cozy flannel. It is so much easier to work with than the costume satin I used for their halloween costumes!

Hi everyone, I’m pretty new around here! I discovered Oliver + S through my sister and absolutely love the designs. I am currently just sewing for my two little girls (a 2 year old and a 9 month old), but hope to branch out into more tailored outfits for myself as well. It’s hard to carve out sewing time with my two eager “helpers”, but slow and steady wins the race, right? So far I’ve made them matching Library dresses for fall, and am now working on Halloween costumes using the Hide and Seek pattern.
