lorena’s cannes trousers

Lorena has stopped by to show off her new Cannes Wide-Legged Trousers made from a linen-like rayon. We love the color and the fit! Take it away, Lorena!

I have decided to make some Cannes trousers for the summer, as I love the silhouette.

Following my measurements, I am between a size 14 waist and 12 hips. I tested it with a muslin to adjust with Top-down centre-out technique, and I started cutting a size 14 waist and size 12 legs as those were my measurements with some extra fabric in the waist and side areas. With the muslin, I decided to cut a size 12 altogether, as it will fit just right. The fabric I chose looks like a stretchy linen, although it is a viscose with linen texture.

I have some culottes I bought in Japan in 2018, I like them a lot, although the fabric is slightly shiny, which I don’t particularly like, and I wanted to make something similar to those with this nice fabric I bought last year. I cut a straight size 12 with a 60 cm long inseam, and that was my only modification from the original pattern. I didn’t interface my waistband piece fully (I left the front half without interfacing), and it was a mistake being that it was a thin, slightly stretchy fabric. Next time I will interface it fully to avoid problems.

I will wear these trousers all summer and probably well into the autumn alternating between the office and relaxing or going out. I wear flat sandals all summer and maybe trainers, and these will go very well with the trousers. I want to say that I will include these Cannes trousers in my holiday capsule too as we are going to Scotland and Norway and I like the flowy feeling they give me. I am planning to make a matching top for a pre-wedding celebration we have in England in July.

  1. I’m making these trousers now and I’m flummoxed. I sewed the pockets on the front 2 pieces, but the pocket facings don’t line up. I can send you pics if you want, but I need some help and advice here. Much appreciated! Bonnie
