introducing the santa rosa top + dress

Hello friends!

I’m delighted to introduce you to the Santa Rosa Top + Dress,  a relaxed top or dress that features a dropped shoulder, a classic shirt yoke, and a popover placket that can include button or be left open. The band collar is a subtle touch that makes the style appropriate for both dressy and casual occasions.

View A includes these front pockets with a pleated details and pocket flaps. You can choose whether to add the buttons and buttonholes or wear it without them.

There’s also a cute box pleat at the back, and you can sew this style with classic long sleeves with cuff and tower placket or you can finish the dropped shoulder as it is and make a cute short-sleeved style for summer. The top view finishes with a slightly cropped hem for a boxy style, and the dress finishes with a shirt-tail hem for a modern take on the classic shirtwaist dress. The pattern includes a self tie or you can also wear the dress with a belt.

And of course we included cup sizes so you don’t need to do the full bust adjustment!

This style is designed for drapey fabrics like silk satin, rayon, and linen. It would also look great in voile and chambray. Less drapey fabrics will also work for the top, but the dress won’t be as flowy and relaxed, so keep that in mind as you’re selecting your fabrics.

As usual, I have collected a few photos for you to help inspire your fabric and styling choices.

This will be a fun style to wear this summer, either with shorts or casual trousers or dressed up for evening and special events.

You can see more photos on my Liesl + Co Santa Rosa Pinterest folder, where I continue to collect ideas for the pattern as I see them.

I hope you’ll enjoy sewing and wearing this one! You can purchase it in paper or digital format, and we would love it if you’d tag us with #santarosatopdress and #lieslandco so we can see what you make. It’s always fun to see how you personalize our patterns!
