Hello friends!
We’re headed into the busy time of year, aren’t we? I’ve noticed that my schedule has picked up quite a bit these last few weeks; many more activities in the evenings and weekends, and next weekend S and I are taking a long-anticipated trip to Paris, at long last!
I’ve squeezed in some sewing for myself recently as well, which I’m eager to show you. My most significant sewing accomplishment was three pairs of Hollywood Trousers in black, navy, and cream. I’ll tell you about them shortly. But in the meantime, a little Hollywood Trouser inspiration!
Those wide legs work so well for a wide variety of fabrics, don’t they? Isn’t the big plaid fun? I’ve made my trouser legs narrower, and I’ll be showing you how to do it yourself very soon.
For now, however, some weekend reading to keep you company.
Weekend Reading
- I recently switched to this safety razor for environmental reasons, and I have to tell you that I love it! It requires a very light hand, but my sensitive skin is much happier. Who would have guessed?
- S and I have been missing NYC a lot this week. Living abroad comes with periodic homesickness, for sure! Reading this article about my favorite magazine shop didn’t help. (It turns out I’m not alone!) And then it turns out that a beloved shop in our old neighborhood is closing. Oh, whoa is me!
- Speaking of nostalgia, I loved this piece on stroopwafels and longing.
- For some reason I’ve been thinking about the copy of the Mona Lisa at the Prado since the pandemic started. I kept going back, hoping to see it again, but that part of the museum was closed. So what a nice surprise to discover there is an entire exhibit about it now! I recommend it if you get a chance.
- I’ve also been thinking a lot about this article and how true it is. I’m still trying to improve my accent, but there are some sounds that are just really difficult to make!
- Fascinating story, but these photos of Rudolph Valentino and Natacha Rambova are also so inspiring and glamorous!

Did you sew one at a time? Or did one step for all three together? Curious
I usually do one project at a time, otherwise I feel overwhelmed
Since they’re each a different color I had to sew them one at a time. But I cut them at the same time and was able to shortcut a bit by doing all the interfacing together, etc. Still, it took quite a while!
Oh Ya I forgot they are different colors.
Still I think it is really brave of you to sew Three trousers.
