drawstring backpack

Today we return with our second idea in our Drawstring Bag series. Let me introduce you to Anne-Sophie. You can follow her on Instagram and Pinterest. She took the drawstring bag pattern and transformed it into a backpack. A quick little tip is to add a chest clip in the front to keep the straps on your shoulders.

The Drawstring Bag is a great and simple pattern that allows you to make plenty of different useful versions!

First of all, enlarge the pattern to make it bigger. This bag is 2 ½ inches wider and 5 ½ inches longer than the original pattern.

It has two loops at the bottom, there is only one long string which is about 90 inches long and a knot closes the big loop made by the string.

The interior pocket is meant to be a shoe pocket. The pleat allows the shoes to enter into the pocket. The finished pocket dimensions are 11 ½ inches by 14 inches. I sewed this pocket and the button tab prior to assemble the lining.

Has anyone ever made their own cord for a drawstring bag from i-cord or a lucet? The i-cord seemed too stretchy to me so I thought I’d try a lucet.

Drawstring bags are easy to use and very comfortable.
