feature friday: garden party dress by ana sofia

I have been so impressed with everyone’s creations in the Oliver + S flickr group. Have you visited there recently? I noticed that the Garden Party Dress has been quite popular lately. Here’s another lovely one to share.

Ana Sofia from S is for Sewing made a Garden Party Dress for Mother’s Day, her blog post about the dress is found here.

Oliver + S Garden Party Dress with white eyelet trim

Instead of fabric, the front/back waistband features wide white eyelet trim (I’ve heard this being called broderie anglaise in England, what is it called where you live?) with a ribbon woven through it. Ana Sofia always manages to pick the perfect trims. A close up photo of the lovely details can be viewed here.

Next week I’m planning a Sunny Day Shorts photo tutorial and sew-along. If you are interested in sewing along, your homework over the weekend is to print out the pattern ahead of time and gather the necessary fabric, etc. You didn’t expect me to assign homework did you? I do hope you will join in.

Last but not least, just a friendly reminder that June is Made for Kids Month. You can read all about the details in the original post found here, but the idea is to encourage kids to wear their handmade items during the whole month of June. On Sunday June 1st you can start adding your photos to the Made for Kids Month Flickr group.

I was surprised by how fast and easy this pattern was – and she does get lots of compliments when she wears it 🙂
