I would use the larger size if you really don’t want to try and merge 2 sizes, however if you’re willing to try it’s not to hard.
I would trace the 18-24 size through the shoulder, neckline and half way down the armhole. Where all the armhole lines cross over I would change to tracing the size 2T for the rest of the bodice. I think this would…[Read more] -

Thanks, Sarvi. The 18/24 month size does not have darts. It really fits great for right now which makes me wonder it will be on the small side in June. Problem is that the 2T will still be big in June, I believe. I don’t think she will grow enough in the chest area in four months given her latest trend.
Maybe this is not the best style for a…[Read more]

I wonder if it’s more of a shape issue than a size issue — would leaving the darts unsewn on the 18-24 leave enough belly room while still fitting nicely around the shoulders? I don’t recall whether the 18m size has the waist darts? Unfortunately it’s hard to predict how much a kid that age will grow in four months, but I can understand wanting…[Read more]

LucyM replied to the topic Premade bias in the forum oliver + s: 2 + 2 10 years ago
I use store-bought bias binding all the time and have always been pleased with the results. It saves time if you want to use a solid color for the neck and ties. One cannot get creative with the bias binding typically available at the fabric store, but it is efficient and saves time.

I chose this dress to make for my daughter’s second birthday in June. She is 19 inches(chest) and 19 3/4 (waist). According to her measurements she should be a size 12-18 so I made a muslin bodice and it felt too tight. OK, I made the next size up 18-24 and it fits perfectly…right now…but it doesn’t look like it has any room to grow and she is…[Read more]

Has anyone used premade bias binding instead of cutting your own for the neck and ties on the 2 + 2 blouse?

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agoI would say that you wouldn’t actually fold the fabric as per you would ordinarily to get the result because the tucks moght end up a bit off. Would trace the pattern on the fold but not cut it on the fold in order to get the full piece and then work from there to determine where to put my tucks.
This is just how I would do it.

Have fun with the coat Heidi. It’s such a lovely pattern. Many little steps leading to a summit of awesomeness!
What have I been up to? Well, I can’t make a Fairy Tale dress without imagining another, so I’ve just cut a second. This one will be simple, no collar, no sleeves, and a pleated skirt.
This week I sewed another Knight Hoodie. This time…[Read more] -

meleliza replied to the topic Tulle in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 10 years ago
Of course, this tulle is between layers, so it doesn’t matter too much how it feels, more how it behaves. If you want just a little extra fluff, regular ordinary nylon tulle is fine. Check fabric.com. It should only be 2 or 3 per yard. If you want more puff, use more tulle or something a little stiffer like net.
I often skip the tulle,…[Read more]

I’m working on a size 7 School Days coat. It’s got a purple pinwale courduroy outer, fleece scraps interlining and navy satin lining with purple board cloth hood lining! I’m constructing the linings first then the outer 🙂

Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 10 years agore lullaby – wouldn’t you make the tucks in your fabric first and then lay the pattern on top for tracing and cutting?
I’d like learn more about growth tucks too, such a clever concept, but the link didn’t work for me either.
How about little pintucks in the Library dress bodice? Crossing over like that? So cool. It would probably involve…[Read more]

Oh, I don’t unpick any of those seams at all. I don’t think it would work even if the time was worth it. I might start raiding my dad’s closet instead of hubbys, though. Dad retired and doesn’t need any more dress clothes. Plus, he’s like 6’3″, so his clothes give me more to work with than my short husband.

Well thanks to @georgeandizzy ‘s blog post and a Facebook promotional coupon, last night I found myself buying the Puppet Show pattern ;-). My girls fall in separate size ranges but since Olivia has all of Ellie’s old things to grow into, I only got the larger size. Once I finish my Easter sewing (Library Dresses for the girls and a Bistro dress…[Read more]

Great plan, @meleliza ! I know what you mean about upcycling adult clothes. You’d think there was ample yardage but the seams hit in funny places, and often unpicking the seams is so much trouble for so little usable fabric that it makes more sense to just trim them off. I do have a nice little pile of pretty buttons robbed from old Banana…[Read more]
