M-C, ultimately you are the one who has to be comfortable, and you are the one who knows your friends and what will make you look like part of the group vs what will make people gasp and clutch their pearls. I’ve been to weddings where I felt underdressed in an embroidered silk Oscar de la Renta two-piece and to weddings where I felt overdressed…[Read more]

Oh, I’ve tried the library, I always try that route first with sewing or craft books and then buy the ones I like. Otherwise, I’d have towering shelves of craft books!
Thanks for the feedback; I think this one isn’t for me. Not a huge fan of raw edge sewing either.
Back to my Bedtime Story PJs:-).

Thank you ladies for your support. I will definitely try it out… My Latin american half tells me to eyeball the size of the pleats… and my german side tells me “stop, do the math”. I will come up with a formula and let you know how it went or if it worked.

On changing threads, I have changed projects to a pink floral and linen tea party dress. I have knickers to sew and the ensemble can move into the handstitching basket.
Tomorrow I will continue with the puppet show shorts so they can join the stitching basket too.

I’ve only checked it out of the library. I wasn’t particularly impressed although I think they may have had a Lego carrier I thought was clever.
I felt that the sizing was limited, only went to 6/7, although much better than many other books that only go to size 6. There were lots of raw edge techniques, so it depends if you like that style…[Read more] -

I don’t have it, but I remember looking at it years ago. It didn’t suit my tastes or seem very substantial. I suspect you could find all those basic patterns in the big 4eawily enough.

Maths, what a headache! Pleats would look nice, but I would just wing it myself.

I’m sure it would be divine.
I would work out how many and approximately how deep I wanted the pleats to be, then calculate the skirt width from that to check against the original skirt and see if the “fullness” is similar.
More maths but quite fun I you’re into it. Or you can play with basting as Nicole said.
There will be a blog post soon about…[Read more] -

Fiber Club! 10 years agoA month’s worth of weekends (including some days of 40C in Adelaide) has seen me finish 3 quilt tops. The must do content were a tablecloth/lap quilt, and a single bed quilt for my aunt/godmother who turn 88 in May. I’ve made many quilts during the last 10-15 years, but haven’t worked on any for a year. So I’m very pleased to have these projects…[Read more]

Perhaps baste the pleats and have a play , see how well they sit? - Load More
