Strokes and chicken pox, Oh my! There is a lot going on. I hope everyone has speedy and easy recoveries from the sick to the care takers and everyone in between. I know how hard it is when someone is ill. My prayers for everyone.

Aargh, inevitably it looks like the baby has chicken pox now. We are predicted a heat wave this week and we’ll be house bound…again! We are supposed to be visiting my brother in law and wife and kids in London this weekend, not sure what to do. We are driving down, I guess we could still go and be house bound there where we would have more help…[Read more]

So my nephew has started his overseas trip which will ultimately turn into a semester of University studies in Canada. He arrived in Paris yesterday I think but unfortunately, he lost his luggage at the airport AND his phone was stolen! Not a good start I think! We are just hoping he was wise and didn’t leave anything on the phone that would cost…[Read more]

I hope that zip behaved and came together sufficiently for you Sarvi!
Sounds like some lovely sister sewing going on. My own sister sews too and we have done this in the past but she lives five hours away from me now so we don’t get to do it anymore.
I’ve been all inspired to get the pleater out because I hopped onto the Frances suzanne blog!…[Read more]

I am loving the words ‘tallifying’ and ‘enskinnying’, also apt in this household. I hope the bubble still gets wear, I like it sitting on the knee, reminds me of vintage sewing pattern pictures, though not right for the occasion I guess. Good luck with that zipSarvi.
My sister had been round tonight to sew a romper pattern for her friend’s…[Read more]

Reeni replied to the topic RTW Alteration? in the forum off topic 10 years ago
If you already have them and can’t return, the changes for a sleeveless sundress could be as simple as running elastic through the neckline to gather it up, or adding a belt. If they have a full tailored bodice, hold up a shirt to it to see the proportions you’ll have to take in. Sometimes vertical tucks through the shoulders and down to the chest…[Read more]

Reeni replied to the topic Center front shoulder straps in the forum off topic 10 years ago
as far as supporting the weight of the dress, it would depend on the size I think, and whether it is very heavy (like with a full skirt or pettiskirt etc.) Do they tie in the back and not at the top? I’m thinking that drooping at the front/sides would be an issue if the bodice is only shirred at the back and not at the front, because the contact…[Read more]

Roxyrox replied to the topic How to achieve this look for Garden Party dress? in the forum oliver + s: garden party 10 years ago
When sewing the Garden Party dress with out the front waist band, what alterations are done to the back? Has anyone modified the back of the dress or do you just sew the front and back without the band but keep the back gathered seam? I was thinking of redrafting the back to eliminate the gathered seam, or would it be better to leave it alone?…[Read more]

Try it Kim. Just baste it so it’s easy to rip out.

Thank you so much! I cut out a new bodice – it looks much better and more proportionate now 🙂
