Sandra, the Birthday Party Dress sounds so pretty. Will you show pictures in the Flicker account? I have a Flicker account but have forgotten my user name and password and how to use it. I am hoping my daughter will have time to figure it out and to reteach me this weekend.

Justsewit, you are almost finished with the pink smocked dress! Will…[Read more]

Justsewit, I am so sorry about little Buddy! Poor Noah. We have two little lap dogs (Shih Tzu) and would be beside ourselves if anything happened to them. Our Jasmine (white and gray) had breast cancer surgery a little over two weeks ago that was more extensive than expected. The vet said that she “bought us some time”. When she goes, Jade…[Read more]

I was shopping in Geraldton this morning when my husband sent me a text to say that our little dog Buddy had been run over! I had to quick finish up shopping and get home so that we could break the news to Noah. Poor boy was gutted. So we had a little funeral for him and are now having a “wake” while I put the shopping away and wait for my parents…[Read more]

  • I have French-seamed a lot of sleeves in my time. I haven’t seen the carousel pattern in person, but I’m sure it will work.

ETA: just looked at the line drawing. The raglan sleeve should make it easy. You could also flat lock it, but it’s hard to flat lock a long sleeve and side seam, and I prefer not to switch seam finishes in mid-project.…[Read more]

  • Awesome about the birthday party dress, just read the instructions as you go and it will all go together beautifully. I plan to do at least one smocked dress for my granddaughter, and she has inherited one that my mother made for my youngest daughter 20 years ago and one that I made for my niece who was a flower girl for my daughter.

You can donate the unwanted fabric to a quilting club that makes quilts for charity. The fabric that is unsuitable for quilting can be donated to a home economics department. There may be a local society associated with a homeless shelter that has sewing facilities. If all else fails, try giving it away on Freecycle. Good luck with the purge.

  • I’m making another upcycled playtime tunic. I’ve used an old tshirt for the bodice and sleeves and a piece of yardage for the skirt.

  • Shoot. Another brick wall. The store emailed to tell it was out of stock. :/ Anyone else has seen it at their online purveyors?!

  • I’m working on the carousel dress, and I’m so pleased with my French seams (which are still new to me). Can I do the same to attach the sleeves? The fabric is lightweight, and I’ve read on the O&S French seam tutorial that gentle curves will work as well, but I’m still nervous about it. Any advice would be welcome! Thanks!
