Sew Alongs 10 years agoI have a nice weight, draped acrylic, in a beautiful southwest pattern. The pattern goes straight across, not on the diagonal. However, I’m wondering if it will work since solid colors seems to be the name of the game with this coat. I see one plaid in the sea of solids on the Pinterest board, so perhaps it can work. There’s quite a drop for…[Read more]

I really enjoyed getting outside my box and trying this challenge. I think it would be fun every other month, or maybe once a quarter?, to have some sort of thing like this. Whether it is a color challenge or pattern challenge, or whatever else your creative minds think up. Just me thinking out loud here 😉

One option is to incorporate the excess fabric into a dart.

Another option is to remove it from the seams. I tend to remove it from the princess seam itself as that’s where I need the projection.

Ok I have gone back and tagged the ones already uploaded and uploaded the ones I didn’t do before. All have the tag you’ve requested @lightningmcstitch and @cybele727 so hoping you find them. They are all in Flickr as my instagram account is private so may not be able to see them there (even though some of them are in there).
I have had a lot of…[Read more]

This article is more about shopping for ready-made clothing as opposed to fabric, but she had some great ideas. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shannon-whitehead/clothing-globalization_b_4733516.html
I try to buy natural fibers and buy indie patterns from local shops. I also try to use old clothing to make garments for my grandkids, but I do get…[Read more]

@justsewit I can second the rec for Ottobre ribbing – I buy it all the time and it’s much better than anything I can find locally.

Can I ask you to use the tag #oliverandsmonochrome that way I can easily round up our monochrome sewing rather than see thousands of Ansel Adams wannabe landscape photos!
How’s it going? I haven’t had much time to browse Flickr yet, but I’ve been watching instagram.
I’ve got a swingset blouse that is close to done and then photos needed before I…[Read more] -

Great idea, I’ll go back and tag mine.
@dubhels2003 that sounds incredible, you must get to it at some point! I have a similar project in the works, blouse and slacks, though a little bit different silhouette. Pleated slacks and a long-sleeved wool jersey tee, but also with a velvet or silk ribbon at the neck.

@Liesl I’ve watched the Creativebug video, and understand it well, but I’m curious how to get back the smaller waistline? Whether for a top or fitted dress, I’d like to emphasize my smaller waist, but doing the FBA widens it.
I’ve seen a few other tutes on the web for just slashing the side-seam, but I’m curious what Liesl would suggest, for only…[Read more]

Can we tag our pictures in Flickr with #Monochrome in the title. It makes it easier to find and search, I think. I do love seeing what is popping up!

Ok,
So for a while now, you cannot sign into Flickr from Gmail. It is something that I haven’t been willing to tackle. I find Flickr/Yahoo so frustrating. But there comes a point where you must attack your fears. So here I am trying to figure out how to sign into Flickr on a computer (I have no problems with my apps).
I can’t find out how…[Read more]

@lightningmcstitch thank you. That was the idea I had, but sometimes idea and execution end up working out differently. 😉

I own a paper copy of the Jalie 2111 shirt pattern, it ranges from baby to large adult, and I have made several shirts for all three men in the he house, starting with the 2 yr size and going up to collar size 39 . I should warn you it is a very loose fit , being a drop shouldered shirt rather than a dress shirt. But it has a very good collar…[Read more]

@jesims I did it here: https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/79480359@N03/17241405191/
I simply worked out how high I wanted the neckband to be the cut the regular neckband length to twice the desired height.
That gives a straight up turtleneck. Attached exactly as per the regular neckband. - Load More
