New York winters can get COLD — but homes are often heated pretty warmly to make up for it. Can you ask the host? Flannel(ette) or interlock should work fine.

Gosh, what a crazy year for weather it’s shaping up to be! Here in LA it’s so dry all the kids are getting nosebleeds, and yet we’re on track to have epic storms. So weird!

  • It can often get quite hot at this time of year. It’s part way through the end of year 12 exams in Australia. There’s always at least one or more really hot days to go with exams 🙂

Can anyone tell me what would be the perfect material for nighties and pyjamas in an American winter. The grandchildren will be in New York for christmas and I wasn’t sure how cold or hot it would be in an apartment considering they have central heating.

I thought flannelette but my granddaughter is always hot, so what about interlock or would…[Read more]

Oh Sarvi, it was a scorcher. Its just summer coming a bit early, we usually have high 30″s and only a week or two thru the summer in the 40″s. Roll on autumn I say, it does look like we could have a bad bushfire season and not just in NSW. Western Australia has had some very severe fires already. Today its only in the 20’s so time to catch up on…[Read more]

On a non-school-related note, what the heck is up with the heat wave in Sydney! Is that normal for this time of year?

  • Oh no, what a lot of work! It’s tricky sewing at night, isn’t it? Cutting at night is always chancy for me — what looks good together under fluorescents can look a bit funky under daylight.

  • Sewing an all black messenger bag for my mum for Christmas. I went to see if there was any black bias binding in my stash and happily there was. After sewing it to the pocket flaps I realise I have one small piece of black bias binding and lots of dark brown! Unpicked the bias binding, returned all the brown to the stash and made new black bias…[Read more]

  • Thanks Sarvi! I’ve enjoyed sewing these bags 🙂 Onto my 5th one with a slight detour making a different sort of basic bag. The messenger bags are lovley, relaxing to make and look so good.

Oh dear I am sorry. Another loss. I am sorry.

And you don’t sound like a total snob. I think we all want better or more for our children. I think that’s part of my issue. I want my daughter (and son) to believe that they can become anything if they have the skill and their genders don’t limit them.

We all try to do what is best for our…[Read more]
