  • I’m attempting to alter Mccalls 7254 for myself, despite the pattern saying it can’t be altered above the waist. I’m attempting to add length and do a FBA. I think I’ve nearly done that bit then the tricky bit of altering the collar/peplum comes next.

The first server I used was very similar to the Janome800D, it was the first server my Mum bought back in the mid 1990’s. We sewed everything on it 🙂 and I still have and wear a number of the jumpers (sweaters) that we made.
I used this serger to do a rolled hem on my wedding veil. It must have been a fairly easy change over as I wasn’t living…[Read more]

    Thanks Enbee for your input.
I just looked up your model serger and it seems to have all the features I use in my price range.
Have you tried using the rolled hem feature on your machine? I do rolled hems quite a bit and if it’s as automatic as the description, then that’s a bonus.

I’m not an expert in sergers by any means, but I have the SINGER 14CG754, and I really like it. It seems to be roughly equivalent in price and function to the Brother (? maybe? Like I said, not an expert!). For actual garment construction, I’ve only used the four-thread stitch, but I played around with 2 and 3 thread stitches when I was first…[Read more]

It looks like I will need to replace my Bernette FunLock serger. It was damaged recently and since it’s 20 years old (or older) perhaps it’s time to replace it.

The sergers in my price bracket that I’ve been looking at are: Juki MO0664D, Brother 1034D & 1134D, and Janome 8002D

Threading a serger is not an issue for me and I have a Janome…[Read more]

Yes, the reviews all say it is fabulous to wear and doesn’t come undone. I showed my sister the pattern and she got very excited about the cup sizing it caters for (she has been very blessed in the bust department). Of course I have to make mine first before really convincing her😜.

At the moment though, my guests have departed and we have two…[Read more]

  • I’m doing the final press of the pleats before adding the elastic, the Anna coronation skirt is nearly complete!
Tamara the Appleton dress is wonderful! I wear mine a lot. It’s become my go to dress for dressier occasions but also when I just want to look fantastic but fell like I’m wearing pajamas 🙂

Well the instructions were from the doctors to do “nothing” but being an active person there is no way he can sit and have a forced holiday for the whole 6 weeks! Besides we have people coming out to help with the broken down windmills so he needs to be up and at ’em. Mind you last night he was really feeling it as he has been sitting around and…[Read more]

If you are asking after my darling hubby, then yes he is but he can’t do anything and it is driving him (and me) insane. He is doing silly things like reversing the car out of the garage because he “wants to help” but he twinged a muscle getting Chloë from her cot after her nap the other day and was feeling very sorry for himself.

    And you should…[Read more]

Yes, I am grateful and lucky. Who would think that a school with 7 Kinders alone would be a gift? Although there are only 6 classes of 1st and 2nd and 3-5 only have 4 each. (Our Kinders max out at 16 students per class, so it isn’t as huge as you’d think.)

But based on after school behavior today only, if that continues, this was SOOOOOO the…[Read more]

My shoulders are on the broader side so i think I can get away with a slightly bigger size. I will measure again and try doing a FBA. Thank you for your help!
