Oh how fun, what will you be sewing?
9 years ago LINKRhythm @rhythmtyagiJust finished my very first jump rope dress! Can’t wait to (try to) photograph my girl in it! Two year olds are very reluctant models! And while it is still fresh in my memory, I am thinking of making a view B version for my niece.
9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5After five hours glueing drafting and cutting, I have started sewing hugos peacoat
I am missing my computer though and watching too much bad telly when I feeding
9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitOn changing threads, I have changed projects to a pink floral and linen tea party dress. I have knickers to sew and the ensemble can move into the handstitching basket.
Tomorrow I will continue with the puppet show shorts so they can join the stitching basket too.
9 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwHurrah, hurrah, I am sewing!! We bought a cheapy ironing board so use until my super duper one arrives. Glad it’s not my permanent one, if I iron right at the pointy end it tries to tip over!
However…
My first project is cot rail protectors, as Josephine has turned into a rodent/beaver as soon as she got in the brand new cot. Grrrr. I’ve wrapped swaddling cloths around as a temporary solution.
My problem is that I want to use piping on the bottom edge, and my Juki zipper foot doesn’t work for piping!
Hard to explain, but the edge of the piping won’t sit close to the edge of the foot, because the attaching point to the shank is wider than the edge of the foot.
I can’t find a Juki foot that does what I want, but I’ve ordered a universal low shank one instead. Fingers crossed it works, I’m so frustrated!!!!I have started planning the girls summer wardrobes though, so I’ll keep going with that while I wait π
9 years ago LINKSarvi @SarviOh, that’s an odd looking zipper foot! Can you bring the needle very close to the attachment point? Good luck!
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI dislike thoes zipper feet too! hope the new one works well.
I’m planning on sewing today after an unexpectedly rough week at work. I’ve got the leopard print hide and seek up to sewing in the pockets π9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitAre you able to get an invisible zipper foot for your machine Jay? I find they work better if you dont have a piping foot. Anotger thought, and I have done this in the past also, to stop the piping from bei g pushed away, is o baste it first. I know it is time consuming but it will give a better result if this is what your foot is doing to it.
I managed to make a pair of blue puppet show shorts the other day – not the hailspot voile ones but out of quilting cotton. The intention was to have them be worn to the swimming carnival today in support of team sapphire. But they are still waiting for elastic and the matching tunic is still in pieces. I aim to get it complete for Chloe to wear to church on Sunday instead.

9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Five hours sewing time into Hugo’s Thread Theory Goldstream peacoat and it is shaping up beautifully. http://threadtheory.ca/collections/store/products/goldstream
I am making a quick detour to sew a Sketchbook shirt for my cousin’s baby boy who is turning 1, his party is on Sunday.
I am making the size 12-18 months and using a Liberty Wiltshire in greens and charcoal.
His last shirt still fits (just) https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/16016855541/in/set-72157625212212623 but a boy can always use a nice shirt.
I think this is my 13th shirt from this pattern?
9 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5PS What a pain re the zipper foot Jay!
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI just finished the leopard hide and seek dress. I enjoyed this much more than I expected, it comes together so well π I skipped all the top stitching this time as the combination of pinwale courduroy and velvet didn’t seem to want it. I love top stitching and can’t wait to sew one with oodles of top stitching. This pattern seems to call out for it π
9 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitGosh! I think I need one handed typing lessons from the looks of the last post.
Making tracks with the tunic and also working on a matching bonnet. I like the brim folded back look on the purl soho bonnet.
I am hoping to get the majority done before this cyclone hits us (yes aparently it is coming this far south!) and then I could do any handsewing when the machine needs to be switched off.
9 years ago LINKjay_1965vw @jay_1965vwWow, everyone is very busy at the moment!
Good luck with the cyclone, Tamara. I really need to keep an eye on the Australian news. I feel very isolated here. At home we watched the ABC news nearly every night, but we aren’t watching any news at the moment. Trying to navigate the local TV channels is interesting! I’m mostly just watching instant video on Amazon.
Can’t wait to see Hugo’s pea coat Nicole, the pattern looks fantastic.
Heidi, will you put up a photo of your leopard dress? I’d like to see the hood on the dress.
Thanks everyone for the zipper foot sympathy! My universal one should arrive later today (yay for Amazon Prime 2 day delivery!).
9 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI hope you are OK when the cyclone comes through and that it brings you rain!
9 years ago LINKNesting re-kicked in a few weeks ago and I spent that time sewing up a cloth diaper stash for the newbie. As soon as my order for more folder elastic arrives, I can finish the last cover, which will complete my stash of 12 newborn fitted diapers, four PUL covers and six nb/small adjustable pocket diapers complete with hemp/microfiber inserts (for night time). I also have 12 newborn prefolds so I am set!
Then yesterday I sewed a swimsuit (my first!) for my tall and skinny 5 year old. I used sewpony’s Cosi pattern and a size 3 lengthened to a 6. The fit is spot on and doesn’t threaten to show *everything* like the store-bought suits we have been struggling with. Immediately after finishing the suit I logged onto The Fabric Fairy and bought more swimsuit fabric. I’m so excited to make more!
