What are you sewing now?

And I freak out at the thought of having a 12 year old! I see that it might be a never ending thing here!
Have found more thread of the same colour/ shade and have almost finished the panel. Can’t wait to finish it totally and see it as a finished coat.
10 years ago LINKvothgirl @vothgirlI’m having a whirlwind romance with chambray right now…I have 4 different colors/brands in my stash/scrap basket right now. Currently, sewing up some field trip cargo pants in RK interweave chambray in ‘boysenberry’. Absolutely gorgeous color and material, so easy to work with. Whenever I sew with difficult fabric, I think I’ll sew something in chambray next to do something relaxing ;-).
I’m also pretty stoked about having just successfully assembled my first cargo pocket! And this pattern certainly gives you lots of practice with top-stitching – used up all the blue thread I have that matches the chambray so I’m off to Joann’s tomorrow to buy some more.
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitWe have just lost power again! And here I was ready to use the iron on some fabric! Really really hoping it comes on sooner than reported and that it doesn’t go out again tomorrow. It is simply impossible to sew in the dark!
In a perfect world, tomorrow the power will be on and I will be able to get cracking on this coat!

10 years ago LINKcybele727 @cybele727So I showed Ms. Sassy Pants the Afterschool pants I am working on. The fabric is a charcoal grey babywale embroidered with purple Cinderella style pumpkin carriages. I am top stitching the side panel with a “star” or “snowflake” stitch for fun. I show her the progress, and what does she say,
“hmmm, Mommy, I would really like hearts instead. Can you do hearts?” I wish you could hear her… it isn’t in rude tone, but sincerely thoughtful like she’s a designer.
I look at Ms. Sassy and say, “well save your pennies and you can buy me a machine that stitches hearts.”
She says, “OK. I will. Until then, the stars are good.” (She says it super sweetly so I can’t get mad at her for being “rude” or “spoiled” or “disrespectful.” Plus don’t we kind of raise fashion monsters when we ask them for their input on the clothes we make??)
The pants are coming along nicely, but slowly as I am having problems with my machine. The kind of problems where the pennies are consciously being saved and I am looking forward to a trade in opportunity.
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5There is nothing rude about a polite request. Our house rules are that you may change your mind up until it is cut out.
I made a good start on my Late Lunch tunic last night. I am using a silvery sheen black linen, I hope it will be dressy enough for the Murphy family christmas party in two weeks time.
On the cutting table…. a bolt of yummy cotton/spandex for black t-shirts for Zara, Elsa and Tildy.
10 years ago LINKJustine J @justmejayOh, the Late Lunch sounds divine, Nicole. And (almost) snap on the black tees – I just made a short sleeve Plantain tee for myself with black linen jersey (thought I’d do it before I change the overlocker thread back again)
10 years ago LINKLightning McStitch @LightningMcStitchMentally almost snap too. I’m imagining making the Neptune T in black for myself. Not actually traced or cut out yet though…..
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5Just finished my Late Lunch tunic and I am literally bubbling over with excitement.
I cannot remember the last time I made something for myself that I love this much!
(Okay, the Portfolio but don’t rain on my parade)I made the size 8 with a DD FBA and it is fabulous.
T-shirts cut for the Biggies and next on the sewing table is a teeny tiny Bubble dress for Trix.
10 years ago LINKNicole @motherof5I finished Trixie’s Bubble dress up to hand sewing the bodice and buttons/buttonholes. Hugo was studying for exams so her nursed *held* her so I could get stuck in.
I couldn’t finish the sewing as the house was filling with insects. I have no idea how they all got in but they were going for the lights. So annoying as Jed was reaping until 1:30 and it was too hot to sleep. A perfect chance to sew.
I couldn’t even use a torch as they were covering the globe.Who has started their Christmas sewing? I know Sharon has finished hers 🙂
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI’ve started my Christmas sewing, in fact I started back in September as soon as I finished the last birthday of the year. 🙂
I think I’m about half way through. One of the biggest I was sewing is Elsa’s corronation dress with cape and gloves. The dress is done but not cape or gloves. I’m not sure how I’m going to make gloves! The other big request was a dress like Hermione’s ball gown! I need to talk to this niece and check exactly what she is thinking 🙂
I’ve a number of tshirts to make, A pair of shorts, another Explorer Vest and a brown messenger bag from LTTS.
But I’m currently upcycling some old shirts to make a chambray skirt for me!
10 years ago LINKvothgirl @vothgirlI haven’t *technically* started my Christmas sewing yet, but I’ve pre-washed some lovely AMH interlock knit to make my mum a Late Lunch tunic as her present. It’s the next project after I finish these field trip cargos! Also on my Christmas sewing to-do list are: stockings for Olivia and my niece (I’m the “stocking-maker” in my family and this is the first Christmas for both girls, so they need stockings!), a LTTS puppet theatre for Ellie, another couple sewing projects I won’t mention here as they’re for my nieces for Christmas/birthdays (New Year’s Eve and mid-January birthdays) and my sister now chats on these discussion forums ;-), and a LTTS explorer vest as a birthday/Christmas gift for the son of my best friend out here in California. He’s about Ellie’s age and we have regular playdates, he’s the most jolly little man!
So I really need to get cracking!
10 years ago LINKTamara @justsewitChristmas sewing?? I haven’t even thought of Christmas sewing! I am still sewing for baby and squeezing in a few things for the big kids. I have a funeral to sew for soon which even though it is the most morbid of events to sew for I really need to start on, just in case it is all in a rush!
I will have to give Christmas sewing a miss this year I think. The Christmas stocking! Oh I had a huge one as a child and managed to get two very large ones for my two. I will make one for baby girl for next year because she may not need one this year.

10 years ago LINKJustine J @justmejayI did get some sewing time in this week – a Bess dress & a tee for me, but aren’t feeling the vibe today.
As for Christmas sewing – I don’t have much planned, but I do want to make up some tote bags for teachers’ presents (although no biggie if I fail on this – they all get a tin full of caramel slice and one of my mum’s gorgeous felt Xmas decorations).
(& I really need to finish off a baby present for a special little mouse 😉 )
10 years ago LINKAnonymous @I have a lot of things in my head for Christmas sewing, but now that the kids are home 6 out of 7 days a week, I can’t work out how to do any sneaky sewing!
10 years ago LINKwith love Heidi @with love HeidiI just got the patterns I ordered a couple of weeks ago! Lullaby, Garden Party (5-12) and Hide And Seek (5-12). And I realised this afternoon that the garden party may work well as the base for Hermione’s dress.
