Right on, @lightningmcstitch! The drape is important for this one. The fabric can be relatively thick as long as it’s not too stiff. @Ginger, I’d suggest going to a fabric store and looking at the coatings section so you can see the type of fabric we’ve recommended for this pattern. That way you’ll know what to look for when you shop your stash!

@justsewit I know the spotlight knits you mean. They are very “stable” which makes them nice to sew and hem, bug I wouldn’t try using them for a neckband. Perhaps a facing, bug not a stretchy neckband.
If you’d consider buying off the internet sight unseen I can strongly recommend the Ottobre ribbings. I’ve bought them from the Ottobre Etsy shop…[Read more] -

How are you attaching the neckband @justsewit ?
Sewing machine or overlocker/coverstitch?
I am like some weird evangelist when it comes to knit fabric, I want the world to share the love! 🙂
Happy to help if there’s any way I can. -

@Ginger I think you’re exactly right to say “hold it up and see how it falls/drapes”. If it feels like it will be a nice warm layer and it drapes nicely then I think you’ve got your perfect fabric.
Here’s a picture of my mum and I both wearing the same cape pattern. I love the fabric I found for her one because of the gorgeous double face, but you…[Read more] -

For th size 6 and up I always add 3″ to the length. I have made well over 25 of these in all the sizes and find the size fits spot on other length for tucking in. Now on the smaller sizes I leave the length alone for not tucking in, as shown on the pattern front. I also discovered that this pattern is perfect for adding a bias hem band for the…[Read more]

What a bummer that it doesn’t fit. He measures an 8, but the 10 is too tight across the chest? Or is it that you were looking for a shirt long enough to tuck in? Length is pretty easy to add but if you fear the 12 will be tightly fitted across the chest, adding width might be a bit trickier.

Well, I have my machine back, so I will finish by B&W dress. I can hardly be the gadfly who bzzz-ed in everyone’s ear and not do it myself! 🙂

I sometimes use tailor’s tacks and sometimes use tailor’s chalk. Depending on the fabric, they can both work.

Oh the idea of no alterations. I would see all the time for myself if I didn’t have so many curves.
