I have made it in pinwale corduroy with quilting cotton for yoke/bias and it worked beautifully. I used French seams as well which look nice and prevent the corduroy from fraying. So happy to see this pattern in larger sizes!

I’m enjoying having long days to sew at the moment. I made my first go of M7254, it was a success 🙂 I will still need to make a few tweaks but I’m very happy with the overall fit.
I’m making another messenger bag, last much I did some curved improvised patchwork to make an interesting background a for my applique BB8 droid 🙂 -

Reeni: Thanks for your info on a Brother serger. People who have that model seem to like it just fine.
Enbee: Thank you so much for taking the time to not only test out a rolled hem on your machine but also post photos. Much appreciated. It sure helps when people share their experiences with their machines, so now shopping for one will be much…[Read more]

What about sewing the velcro through both layers and adding some nice buttons to hide the stitching? Giving the look of a button front jacket.

That’s sad Tamara 🙁 I hope it was general busyness not something going very wrong.
I finished up the jacket i was making with all its alterations. McCalls M7254,http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/74711
Despite it saying no changes above the waist I successfully did a FBA and added length 🙂 I would still like to make some tweaks but the…[Read more] -

Can you use those buckle closures that are sewn onto the outside?
Or maybe make tabs with your own fabric and have snaps – bit like view B…. -

Request for miscellaneous advice, please! I’m sewing a School Days rain jacket and made a bad error — I stitched the front placket to the coat and forgot to put in the loops for the toggles. Should I forgo the toggles and just use velcro alone?
Also, I am a bit nervous about stitching Velcro only to the lining and not all the way through the…[Read more]

I’m attempting to alter Mccalls 7254 for myself, despite the pattern saying it can’t be altered above the waist. I’m attempting to add length and do a FBA. I think I’ve nearly done that bit then the tricky bit of altering the collar/peplum comes next.
